UAE-based company SkyPower Global has won a contract from the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) to set up a clean energy plant in DR Congo. The project, called DRC Green Giant, will be built in four phases, with the first phase costing $200 million (around Dh734 million) and creating 6,000 jobs over several years. This initial phase of 200 megawatts (MW) is crucial for a larger plan to generate 1,000 MW of solar energy, as part of an agreement with Congo's state-owned utility, Société Nationale d’Electricité (SNEL). The project is expected to be up and running within 18 to 24 months, and it's estimated to have a direct and indirect impact of $700 million on DR Congo's economy. President Félix Tshisekedi of DR Congo is aiming for a significant increase in clean energy production, which is expected to stimulate the country's economy by $2.3 billion and create around 30,000 job opportunities. AFC's senior director, Amadou Wadda, highlighted the importance of partnering with SkyPower, a company with extensive experience in large-scale solar projects, to advance renewable energy access in Africa. The collaboration aims to support industrialization, local job creation, sustainable economic growth, and the transition to net zero emissions in DR Congo and across Africa. This agreement underscores AFC's role in promoting renewable energy solutions across the continent. #energy #continent #plant #UAE #Firm #Billion

AFFORDABLE ENERGY FOR ALL AFRICANS IS THE IMMEDIATE AND ABSOLUTE PRIORITY. Universal access to affordable electricity, achieved by 2030 in the SAS, requires bringing connections to 90 million people a year, triple the rate of recent years. At present, 600 million people, or 43% of the total population, lack access to electricity, most of them in sub-Saharan Africa. The other 57% experience power outages on a daily basis. OFF GRID IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO SOLVE THE ENERGY CRISIS IN AFRICA FOR NOW AND ALWAYS In Africa, ISG&P is the ideal private company to play a major role in solving the energy crisis, but to lay the foundation for this, we need support from, for example, other fund managers, financial institutions, fundraising companies, etc. ISG&P is represented by local professionals in most countries in Africa "ISG&P / International Services Group & Partners is an InterContinental Entity / Conglomerate with a focus on Economic Advancement in Africa." The social enterprise arm of Bechtel Corporation announced a major achievement by the Health Electrification Telecommunications Alliance (HETA), a public-private partnership that includes bechtel.org. HETA successfully brought clean, reliable solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to more than 300 health facilities in Tanzania, Eswatini, and Nigeria. This multi-year initiative addresses the challenge of access by providing electricity to essential healthcare services in underserved communities across Africa. Through photovoltaic (PV) systems, thermal energy is converted into electricity connecting thousands of health facilities digitally, which is critical for better health outcomes in these regions. "There's no cookie-cutter approach to this,” said Frank Fernandez, Project Manager of bechtel.org “Each country, province, or community has a unique set of social, economic, regulatory, and political circumstances that require a high degree of technical flexibility. As a founding member of HETA, bechtel.org is committed to increasing access to healthcare in Africa." Read more: https://lnkd.in/d-wXtsK5 #RenewableEnergy #Solar #CleanEnergy #Africa #NGO

Synergy delivers solutions that are sustainable, economically viable and socially inclusive, aligned with our clients Environmental Social Governance goals. Praveen shares Synergy's vision and comprehensive approach encompassing renewable energy development, innovative financial modeling, debt and equity raising, strategic policy advisory, and capacity building.
