US executives panicked, and informed lawmakers that they couldn't possibly find other manufacturers for at least eight years. The House of Representatives passed a revised bill that pushed back the deadline until 2032. We live in a globally integrated supply chain network and this will not change. Despite short-term geo-political disruptions the fact remains that the world needs to work together to keep the production of all types of goods going at the quantity, quality, and pricing that the economic buyers demand. There was a reason why India has grown to play such a huge role in the Gx market space. But this dominance is now being challenged by Mexico and China as well. I look forward to adding my thoughts on the China/EU/US Pharma market dynamics during ChemOutsourcing 2024 in just a few weeks.

Panicking is usually not helpful, but probably best to take a look at your company and see if it has a heavy reliance on Chinese companies for materials or services. We're seeing a trend of "anti-chinese" sentiment in the biotech fields from company creation and services to investment. “FOR CHINA IN CHINA” IS THE OPERATIONAL APPROACH FOR WESTERN MULTINATIONALS AS DECOUPLING INTENSIFIES In Fortune today, Larry Summers, a “friend of China,” warns Beijing that its action are making it hard for people like him to push for stronger ties. Even “Dr K,” had expressed similar sentiment before his recent departure at age 100. Xi’s CCP has repeatedly made it clear that China’s objective is to replace the post WWII Atlantic Alliance world order of democracies. As military strategist debate whether China will take action against Taiwan before or after 2027, CEOs of OECD-based MNCs who have ex-China operations dependent upon Chinese sourcing and who are NOT moving heaven and earth to re-shore/friend-shore those supply lines are failing in their basic fiduciary responsibilities to their shareholders and the nations they serve and represent. Pascal has made it clear that AZ plans on participating in China’s, generational opportunity, for pharmaceuticals as their population ages, even with imposed NRDL and VBP price mandates. Last year was the first time that the number of out-licensing deals in China exceeded in-licensing deals, indicative of a burgeoning innovative biotech scene that’s attracting cross-region interest. Chinese biotechs executed 63 cross-region out-licensing deals in 2023, a record for the industry and an 80% increase compared to 2022. In-licensing deals fell by 56% over the same period, from 59 to 26, the data show.
