Psychedelic Mushrooms: The Unexpected Hero in the Fight Against PTSD? 🍄✨ Ever heard of PTSD? PTSD is post-traumatic stress disorder. Most of us have heard of it, but did you know that something as intriguing as psychedelic mushrooms might be a game-changer in its treatment? It's time to cite the research. ▶️ What is PTSD? PTSD is a mental health condition that can arise after witnessing or experiencing traumatic events like warfare, violence, car accidents, or assault. Individuals with PTSD frequently suffer from intense symptoms, including recurring nightmares or aggressive outbursts. 🍄 The Magic Behind Psychedelic Mushrooms: Long celebrated in spiritual circles, these fascinating fungi, loaded with psilocybin, are making waves in modern medicine. Here's why: 🔘 Healing the Mind: Research hints that these mushrooms can be effective in the fight against anxiety and depression. Some patients even experience groundbreaking moments during therapy, facing their traumas head-on. 🔘 Opening the Mind: Psilocybin mushrooms are renowned for their capacity to broaden the mind's horizons and transform negative thinking patterns. This can be particularly beneficial for those with PTSD, who frequently grapple with entrenched toxic thoughts and beliefs. ▶️ In a Nutshell: Psilocybin mushrooms offer new avenues for treating PTSD. Their ability to alleviate anxiety, enhance empathy, and open the mind to new perspectives makes them a promising therapeutic tool 🩺 However, before physicians can embrace psilocybin as a mainstream treatment, further clinical research and legal regulations are necessary. Treating PTSD is a complex process, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. While psilocybin mushrooms can be a valuable component of therapy, they should always be used under the supervision of qualified therapists 👨⚕️ The future of PTSD therapy looks promising, and psilocybin mushrooms could play a significant role in it 🍄 #psilocybin #PsychedelicMushrooms #psychedelics #psychedelic

Trauma Series: What is PTSD What is PTSD and what are my treatment options? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects 1 in 3 people following experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event (NHS.UK). PTSD symptoms can present immediately, weeks or years after the traumatic event occurred. PTSD can result from one event, or multiple traumatic events. PTSD symptoms include re-experiencing the traumatic event(s) through; nightmares, flashbacks, physical sensations. Often in PTSD we can get caught up in rumination, repetitive thinking which asks questions about the trauma, for example why it occurred, what we could have done differently. Due to the distress associated with traumatic memories we may try to push the memories away using strategies such as; avoiding talking about the trauma(s), distraction keeping busy, trying not to feel anything/numbing, use of alcohol or drugs. Common emotions we may experience with PTSD: 🔵Depression or low mood 🟣Anxiety (feeling on edge) 🟢Shame 🔵Guilt 🟣Anger 🟢Alternatively, we may feel numb and disconnected, often due to trying to push the memories away. PTSD can mean that we become hypervigilant, on edge, unable to relax, we may be overly alert to our surroundings and on the lookout for potential threat. Hypervigilance can make us feel irritable, on edge and mean that we having a difficulty concentrating. Often with PTSD we may have difficulty sleeping, or experience difficulties with waking up during sleep, for some people they may try to avoid going to sleep due to nightmares experienced. The NATIONAL CENTER FOR PTSD estimates that 6% of the U.S. population will have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at some point in their lifetime. With such prevalence, it is likely you may have patients living with PTSD. Here are a few signs to look out for: 1. Intrusive thoughts or memories Intrusive thoughts relating to the traumatic event or flashbacks of the event that become persistent are a cause for concern. Severe emotional reactions may accompany the memory or be the trigger that brings the memory back in focus. 2. Avoidance Avoidance comes in several forms but involves avoiding memories or discussion of the event. It can also involve avoiding people, places, or things that remind a person of the traumatic event. 3. Changes in thinking and emotions Notable symptoms include a diminished view of the future, feeling detached from friends and family, lack of interest in previous interests, disassociation, depersonalization, feeling frightened, and having overwhelming feelings of guilt or shame. 4. “Oppositional” behavior More commonly seen in children with PTSD, patients experience angry outbursts, get irritated easily, and become very upset when memories of the event are triggered. They may also relive or reenact their trauma while playing. They can seem fidgety or restless, which may be confused with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. 5. Dissociation or numbness To avoid their trauma, patients may overly focus on video games or online activities, avoid places or people associated with the event, deny that anything happened, and/or become listless, helpless, and withdrawn. #PTSDAwarenessMonth

Men with PTSD may exhibit symptoms differently than women, making it harder to detect. They may be more likely to avoid discussing their emotions or seeking help, instead turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as substance abuse or aggression. Men may also present with physical symptoms such as headaches or stomach problems, rather than emotional symptoms like anxiety or depression. Additionally, men may be more likely to downplay or deny their symptoms, making it challenging for others to recognize their struggles. It is important for loved ones to be aware of these differences and to encourage men to seek help if they are experiencing symptoms of PTSD. #MenwithPTSD #seekinghelp #coping Click the link below to read more about how PTSD appears in men https://lnkd.in/e6-9YbzY

#PTSD and #futuresthinking (edited by help of perplexity.ai) "Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) " can significantly affect an individual's ability to engage in "future-thinking". 3️⃣ key points on how PTSD affects future-thinking include: 1️⃣ Reduced specificity in "episodic future thinking" : Survivors with PTSD tend to imagine fewer specific future events in response to " positive, but not to negative", cues compared to those without PTSD (See: https://lnkd.in/dYzRivpc ) 2️⃣ Negative thoughts about the future: One of the primary symptoms of PTSD is "holding negative thoughts about the future", which may include the sense that a person simply "won't be around to experience certain future events". (See: https://lnkd.in/dnZXw2wu ) 3️⃣ Alterations in memory and future thinking: PTSD can lead to changes in an "individual's memory" and future-thinking processes, which may be related to negative beliefs about one's self in the past, present, and future. (See: https://lnkd.in/dErSRr9d ) 💡Idea for your research : While there is considerable evidence supporting the relationship between "PTSD" and "changes in past and present self-conceptions", less is known about how "future self-concept" and "future goals" are affected by PTSD.
