The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has appointed a new chief executive officer to replace Hon Ian Macfarlane, who will retire at the end of the year. Seasoned industry leader Janette Hewson will take on the top job, bringing more than 25 years of resources experience at a senior executive level. “Janette will lead the QRC at a time when the industry faces changes, challenges and opportunities as the sector continues to power Queensland’s economy while providing the minerals and materials needed for decarbonisation,” QRC board president Adam Lancey said. “Under her leadership, the QRC will continue to prioritise and promote the highest industry standards in health and safety, diversity and inclusion and environmentally responsible operating practices. OreCorp Board recommends amended Perseus proposal. According to the ASX Release 25 March 2024 OreCorp Limited Board recommends that shareholders ACCEPT the amended Perseus proposal once it becomes capable of acceptance, in the absence of a superior proposal. The release further highlights that the  Silvercorp Offer has lapsed and OreCorp has exercised its right to terminate the Bid Implementation Deed dated 27 December 2023. The details of the release can also be read in the 4th Supplementary Bidder's Statement released by Perseus Mining Limited earlier today. In a statement, Perseus confirmed that - No superior proposal has so far emerged.  - Perseus increased its Offer Consideration to A$0.575 per OreCorp Share. -OreCorp received acceptance intention statements (Intention Statements) from key OreCorp Shareholders collectively representing 15.61% of OreCorp Shares on issue stating that they will accept the Perseus Offer before the end of the trading day on 27 March 2024. The directors of OreCorp have also confirmed that they intend to accept the Offer in respect of all OreCorp Shares which they and their Associates own or control. This represents 3.9% of the current issued OreCorp Shares. Transitions entail a multifaceted interaction between institutions and the regulatory framework. Supporting sustainable practices in Queensland can be achieved through the development of policy mixes. These policies must integrate economic, social, and environmental aspects of sustainability. However, aligning with industry can be challenging, and at times, certain challenges and complexities may be neglected. Therefore, for my study, I aim to include all relevant institutions in my analysis to gain a comprehensive understanding industry dynamics, complexities within the mining industry. Understanding these institutions can offer guidance that may mitigate uncertainty and operational difficulties for sustainable compliance and practices mining companies. We need to find solutions to move forward, instead of hindering innovation and development, and creating conflicts. I am looking for help to establish contact with individuals from the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation & Department of Resources (Queensland) for my academic research. Toward 2030 Strategy⏩ Resources Victoria (RV) recently released its Toward 2030 strategy, providing a clear direction for the future of the resource sector in Victoria. As pointed out by RV CEO Matt Vincent "The CSIRO conservatively predicts there are $200 billion of untapped critical minerals beneath Victoria’s surface. It’s our job to enable industry to unlock the full potential of these resources." This new stratgic positioning is welcomed by industry and will hopefully provide a platform for increased investment and confidence in the exploration sector in #Victoria, as the transition to net zero progresses. 𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝟭𝟮𝟭 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗮   ESS was proud to sponsor and participate in the 121 Mining Conference, and our Managing Director was a panel speaker for the 30th Mining Indaba in Cape Town.   ESG and sustainability were key topics and a major part of this year’s theme, and the ESS team engaged in a wide variety of thought-provoking discussions on the current trends and challenges shaping the global mining industry landscape.   Some key insights from the conferences: ✅ 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: Many projects in Africa have one or more missing infrastructure links that block the development of the project. Significant finance is being brought to bear, lead by Africa Finance Corporation, Africa50 Infrastructure Investment Platform and others, to create the conditions for economic success. It is essential that these infrastructure projects consider the ESG implications of cumulative impacts to ensure that environmental and social conditions are not worsened as a result of this success. ✅ 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀: It’s not ESG’s fault if your project sits within a national park, just as it’s not the financial market’s fault if the project is not profitable and no-one wants to invest. Companies who fail to integrate ESG and sustainability considerations into the project design, are destined to face significant ESG barriers when looking for finance. ✅ 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: Increasingly, the promise of economic development due to a project is becoming less important to impacted stakeholders in Africa. But communities have a huge impact on the success of projects – and regularly exercise their power to disrupt projects that don’t proactively share benefits. Models such as those used by indigenous communities in Canada, or others where a percentage of the profit averaged over time is accorded to each family in communities directly impacted by a project, can ensure that communities don’t set fire to the project.   The ESS team had the opportunity to connect in person with many valued clients and potential future partners, and we return to work energised in continuing to implement HSEC, ESG and sustainability solutions across Africa and emerging economies.   We look forward to next year’s conference, and the ESS Managing Director, Adrian Mill, will continue the year’s conference circuit at the PDAC in Toronto, Canada in March.   #ESG #Environmentalandsocialsustainability #Environment #EnvironmentalManagement #SustainableDevelopment #Sustainability #miningindaba2024 #EsgInvesting

Last month, I completed my tenure as President of the APA Victoria chapter, and this week I passed the baton to the new executive leadership. In one year we relaunched the Victoria chapter and established a platform for Africans and Allies to connect and grow their professional networks. It was a wonderful and rewarding experience, and I couldn't have wished for it to be any different; Short and Sweet! Working with an incredible team of professionals, each deserving the chance to steer the chapter in its unique direction, is a highlight. Such dynamic leadership rotation is crucial in most organizations, especially in our rapidly evolving environment that spans generations. It's essential to adapt quickly while sharing responsibilities. I am exceptionally proud to have established and left behind a strong partnership with the Melbourne Business School, which will continue as a supporting partner for the chapter's development.
