The journey to achieving #NetZero is of course a difficult one - but a key consideration in #civilengineering is the appropriate selection of lower carbon options when making decisions upon approach. In 2010 WRAP produced a guide which was arguably ahead of its time in advocating for the use of Geosystems as alternates to traditional engineering approaches from the perspective of sustainability. CIRIA is now proposing to update this guide - to reflect a) lessons learnt globally on the application of geosystems to a range of scenarios, b) advances in product specifications c) the current drivers for choosing geosystems. This project will provide guidance on how, when and where certain geosystems can be utilised. Undertake cost and carbon comparisons across a range of examples to enable informed choices to be made by clients, designers and contractors. Utilise a series of case studies to emphasise applications and guide users unfamiliar with these approaches to their potential for delivering a range of benefits. We are delighted that we have Network Rail, Maccaferri, GEOfabrics Ltd, HUESKER Limited, Tensar, a division of CMC, Geosynthetics Limited, Greenfix Soil Stabilisation and Erosion Control Ltd, Enviromesh on board - with discussions ongoing with other key clients. We'd be delighted to hear from you if this is of interest - we are looking for a combination of technical and financial support to ensure this meets the needs of the wider industry. #geosystems #carbon #engineering #goodpractice #collaboration Niall Corney Patrick Cox
