Director of Sheffield Creative Industries Institute and Head of Art & Design, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK
Macqueen emphasises that the core functions of packaging, encapsulated in the ‘3 Ps’ – Protect, Preserve & Promote – have been pivotal in shaping the industry. However, he suggests that a new paradigm is needed, advocating for the recognition of the ‘3 Rs’ – Reduce, Recycle & Reuse – and the ‘3 Is’ – Include, Inform & Invent – as equal and essential components of a revised ‘Modern Duty’ for packaging.

🌍 Driving Sustainable Water Supply through Strategic Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) 💧 I recently had the privilege of taking on an internship program at Bridge Factor in which I provide due diligence to local governments for a critical water supply project, where tenders were offered by various private organizations. This experience not only allowed me to dive deeper into the intricacies of public-private partnerships but also highlighted the importance of creating models that deliver value for money for both public and private stakeholders. Key highlights of my role: Researched and developed the ideal PPP model for the project, ensuring that it met the financial, operational, and sustainability goals of both parties involved. Delivered an in-depth financial viability report, using comprehensive data analysis and financial modeling in Excel to assess the long-term economic feasibility of the project. Conducted sensitivity analysis and evaluated multiple financial scenarios to ensure that the partnership model was robust under varying economic conditions. Presented these findings via PowerPoint presentations to clients, pitching the best private partnership structure and outlining clear strategies for success under the most advantageous terms for all parties involved. This project has deepened my understanding of financial modeling in large-scale infrastructure projects and the crucial role that data-backed decision-making plays in creating impactful, sustainable partnerships. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project that has the potential to make a real difference in communities by securing reliable and sustainable water resources under the guidance of Khwaja Huzaifa and Sajwar Rasheed Channa, both of whom taught me a lot. #PPP #WaterSupply #FinancialModeling #Excel #PublicPrivatePartnerships #SustainableDevelopment #Infrastructure #DataAnalysis #FinancialViability

My summer internship at the Climate Policy Initiative has officially come to an end! 🌍✨ Diving into the complex world of climate finance was both challenging and rewarding, but the supportive and insightful environment at CPI made the journey incredibly enriching. As a Climate Finance Intern, I had the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, such as updating the adaptation taxonomy for the Gates I Private Adaptation Tracking and researching the landscape of Project Preparation Facilities for CCFLA. These experiences not only sharpened my analytical skills but also deepened my understanding of the critical role finance plays in addressing global climate challenges in terms of adaptation finance and cities resilience. Here are my main takeaways from the projects I assisted through the internship: 1. There still exists an urgent need for a standardized framework to track private adaptation finance. Currently, the lack of clear standards and reporting tools means private actors often don’t recognize or report their contributions to adaptation efforts. Establishing a robust taxonomy is essential to accurately capture and scale these vital investments in climate resilience. 2. We identified a growing awareness of PPFs worldwide through our research on the global landscape. However, there still remains certain gaps in the guidance provided to cities like if it requires minimum size requirements or an application tempo. These details are crucial for cities to effectively navigate and gain support from PPFs, highlighting the need for clearer, more accessible guidelines. Most importantly, I couldn’t have achieved these milestones without the guidance of my amazing managers, William Wallock, John Michael LaSalle, Jide Olutoke, and the entire CPI team, who were always there to inspire and support me. A special shoutout to Guillermo Martinez Currielche for his invaluable insights and support for our intern cohorts this year! 💫 It has been an honor to contribute to CPI’s mission of promoting innovative financial solutions to climate change. I’m excited to carry forward the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained into my future endeavors. Thank you, CPI, for an unforgettable summer! 🌱 🙌 #ClimateFinance #Sustainability #CPI #ClimatePolicyInitiative #SummerInternship #ClimateChange #ClimateChangeAdaptation #CCFLA
