EPA measures competence and if the robustness is compromised then the trail of blame will be deep should there be another such disaster. You know what they say... a picture is worth a thousand words. In this photograph you can see healthy, restored Country bursting with life on the left; on the right, over the fence, is an opportunity to turn cleared land into a thriving, connected ecosystem. This photograph shows the fence line that separates Bush Heritage's Red Moort Reserve from a neighbouring property in the south-west of Western Australia. Just down the road, a similar fence line exists between our Monjebup Reserve and a property with the wonderful name of Dodgey Downs. Bush Heritage is currently fundraising to purchase Dodgey Downs. This strategic acquisition would allow us to do what we do best - applying the best science, Indigenous knowledge and world-leading land management practices to restore the landscape and bring the bush back to good health. Witnessing Destruction, Feeling the Weight of Inaction As I reflect on the devastation caused by yet another hurricane, it’s hard not to feel a deep sadness and frustration. Homes destroyed, lives upended, and communities left in pieces—yet here in #Florida, our political leaders still refuse to acknowledge the root cause. It’s beyond belief that our Governor has outlawed the use of the words #climatechange, all while the fossil fuel industry continues to thrive. The connection is clear. The storms grow stronger, the floods more destructive, and the suffering greater—yet we pretend it’s all business as usual. I can’t help but ask: how much longer will we let this go on? How many more storms, floods, fires must we endure before we demand real action? In the short term, we can be good neighbors, cleaning up the damage, supporting those in need, and extending our care, but that doesn't solve the underlying problem. We have the power to make things better. The upcoming elections are our chance to choose leaders who will fight for a better future—leaders who understand that protecting our environment is protecting our communities. If it matters to us as #Floridians, this is our moment to speak up, cast our votes, and reject the status quo that props up industries hurting us all. It's time to hold our leaders accountable for the future of our planet, our communities, and our children. Enough with propping up industries that harm our world. We relocated to Asheville in 2023 and witnessed some of the devastation firsthand. It's no exaggeration to say that what some people have experienced is beyond catastrophic. The city of Asheville will not have running water for 'several weeks' (the only real estimate we've heard). Cell service and electricity remain spotty. Gas station and grocery store lines can last multiple hours. We were very, very lucky and sustained no house damage from water, wind or trees. When a road out of town finally opened Sunday, we were able to head east to my parents' house. Thousands of others there don't have that option and need every bit of help that they can receive. I haven't been on LinkedIn lately (for obvious reasons), so if these links have been posted a thousand times, feel free to keep scrolling. 💚 🏢 Seven years have passed since the tragic night when Grenfell Tower was engulfed in flames, leaving an indelible scar on our collective conscience. Today, as we remember the 72 lives lost, The Property Institute stands in solidarity with the survivors and the Grenfell community, who continue to seek justice, and we urge the next Government to act swiftly and finish the job of fixing unsafe buildings. The next Government must rise to the occasion and make a commitment to proactive, tangible measures that prioritise human life and safety above all else. This includes tackling the implementation issues, slow progress, and limitations of the remediation programme, as well as removing bureaucratic obstacles that delay building repairs and revisiting amendments to the Building Safety Act, so that buildings are fully fixed, and residents are safe and protected from unnecessary costs. The resilience and relentless pursuit of justice by the Grenfell community inspire us to demand more from those in power. As we gather to honour the memory of those lost, we must also renew our resolve to push for the change that is so desperately needed. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the lessons of Grenfell are not forgotten. As we elect a new Government, the time for change is now. We owe it to the victims, the survivors, and to ourselves to build safer communities. The next government must act and deliver on the promises made in the wake of the Grenfell tragedy. Hurricane Helene’s catastrophic damage spans hundreds of miles and has uprooted lives and communities forever. As Angeleno, some of us might never and will never experience a Hurricane, so let me share that tens of thousands of homes have been affected across an enormous area. Entire communities are unreachable, cut off by floodwaters and damaged roads and bridges. Some 1.7 million customers, about 5 million people, are still without power. Each community faces different struggles, and the timeline for recovery will be different. Many families forced to flee will not have a home to return to. The American Red Cross has launched a massive response to ensure no one faces this challenging time alone. If you or anyone you know anyone who needs assistance, the Red Cross may be able to help. We know connectivity is difficult, but if you can, first download the Red Cross Emergency app to find service locations or visit redcross.org/gethelp. To Hell with Hurricane Helene As a former #emergencyresponder, I am accustomed to a brittle operating environment; balance can only occur with resources. As the death toll rises, communities in FEMA Region 4 need more resources. For those of us who are not part of organizations in the fight to save lives, We can donate! As communities continue to weather the storm and upcoming storms that follow, let us embrace the philosophy that balance is vital to resilience. Hurricane Helene is more than just a storm; it catalyzes change, resilience, and unity. Let's unify a mindset to “love thy neighbor” and emerge stronger. We learn that amidst the chaos, we find strength in each other, and in that strength, we discover our true capacity as humans to weather any storm.
