While it has served as a cornerstone in nutrition education for decades, it's time to examine its relevance and accuracy in today's diverse dietary landscape. 📚 The Original Intent The Food Pyramid was developed as a generalized framework to guide the public on daily food choices. However, its "one-size-fits-all" approach often falls short of accommodating individual nutritional needs, health conditions, and lifestyle choices. 🌾 The Grain Predominance The pyramid’s base is predominantly grains, urging individuals to make this the bulk of their diet. However, a high-grain diet are not be suitable for everyone and can be especially problematic for those with gluten sensitivities, insulin resistance, or autoimmune diseases. 🥩 Protein: A Secondary Thought? Proteins are essential for a multitude of bodily functions, from tissue repair to immune responses. Yet, in the Food Pyramid, they are almost sidelined. This underrepresentation could be detrimental for those who rely on protein-heavy diets, such as athletes or those recovering from surgery. 🤝 The Influence of Industry It's worth noting that the Food Pyramid wasn't solely created by healthcare professionals. This Diet Is Best If You Get COVID-19 AUGUST 17, 2021 by DANNY KWON JD We know that a whole food, plant-based diet is good for overall health but is it possible that such a diet can protect against diseases like COVID-19?  A new study in the BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health has found evidence that it can. It found that a whole food, plant-based diet is linked to significantly less symptoms from COVID-19 than any other diet.  The study surveyed almost 3,000 health care workers in six countries on their dietary habits and COVID outcomes. These workers had significant (almost daily) exposure to COVID-19 and therefore were considered high-risk for getting the disease. https://lnkd.in/gMCqsePE
