Executive Director, Office of Military Base Planning and Support for the State of New Mexico (Opinions are my own and, obviously, I do not speak for the State)
Sigh - simple solution ... vote! You always have to ignore words and promises during an election year ... focus only on results and what you see with your own eyes. If you agree with what is going on in CA then by all means continue to vote for the politicians that support those policies. If you disagree then vote for politicians that oppose those policies. Vote policies, not party. If you strictly vote for party and ignore their policies, then you are what is wrong with this country. Stay strong, stay free

https://lnkd.in/emKRzhdf 1. The pressing issues that deeply concern me include foster care, knife crime, poverty, access to essential services, support for youth workers, crime prevention, housing affordability, and homelessness. 2. I’d appreciate explanations on why the Independent Care Review promised a ‘root and branch’ review of the care system for looked after children and has failed to materialise to those it matters to and how it now impacts those relying on this service - Foster carers and children, the impact of its absence on foster carers and children who depend on the improvements it was meant to bring. 3. Thanet in Kent offers a poignant setting to report from, as poverty grips every corner, reflecting the broader struggles faced by families and children across the country. “Families and children having immense challenges, from unfulfilled promises. In Thanet, Kent, poverty casts a shadow over every corner, serving as a microcosm of the struggles faced nationwide. This is where we need to be reporting from – shedding light on the realities of those forgotten in the shadows of society.” Your voice matters, what election issues really matter to you? #UKelections2024 #FosterCareStruggles #KnifeCrimeConcerns #PovertyCrisis #YouthWorkerSupportNeeded #CrimePrevention #HousingAffordability #HomelessnessReality #ThanetPoverty #FosterWikiIndependentSurvey2024

The votes have been counted, and a new government has been elected. But our ask remains the same👇 #MakethistheConvo until everyone has a place to call home. As we welcome the new government, we would like to thank everyone who helped to make ending homelessness a key focus during this election period. We know that homelessness can be ended, and we see hope given to so many people each day. However, unfortunately we’re also seeing record numbers of people in crisis arriving at our door. In 21st-century Britain, it is simply unacceptable that anyone should have to sleep out on our streets. During the election campaign, we outlined the three areas that need to be delivered by whoever won the election, to end homelessness: https://lnkd.in/euvRf8Wc We look forward to working with the new government to bring about the change that is required to achieve our vision of a society where everyone has a place to call home. What we ask from you is simple, continue this important conversation💬 #EndingHomelessness #EmergencyOnOurStreets

Note on politics: Any mayor who allows their city streets to become homeless encampments filled with death, violence, and disease, deserves to lose elections. Any mayor who orders homeless people being rounded up without providing reliable and humane housing, deserves to lose elections. Any mayor who promotes accountability without providing reliable and humane mental health services, deserves to lose elections. Any mayor who claims to promote these services while spending 10-100 times more per person than what is obviously reasonable, deserves to lose elections. How is it even controversial? Yet both major parties not only reject this simple truth, but flatly refuse to even debate it, dropping one aspect of another. That's why anti-idiotarianism, not liberalism or conservatism, is the only political path forward. "Is your mayor pro-idiocy?" ask yourself these elections. https://lnkd.in/gUjYRVzR

Up to 8 million people who should be on the electoral register are missing. Meaning come election day; they will not be able to cast their ballot. The chances are they include the communities your organisation works with. Young people, those on low incomes and the insecurely housed, migrants and those from minoritized ethnicities are all less likely to vote. Redressing this inequality is essential for shifting power, enabling all of us to be heard at elections and when policy is made. But navigating how can feel challenging. The registration deadline is 18 June so here are four simple steps you can take right away. https://lnkd.in/eu3z7Wv3
