🇬🇧🛰️💪 The UK Ministry of Defence has successfully put its first military satellite into orbit, boosting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. Dubbed “Tyche,” the asset was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California with SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite will be operated by the UK Space Command to capture daytime images and videos of the Earth’s surface. About the size of a washing machine, the Tyche military satellite weighs 150 kilograms. It is part of a 22-million-pound initiative between the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL). #military #army #defense #defence #defenseindustry #defenceindustry #defensetech #defencetech #militarytech #technology #uk #satellite #satellites #intel #intelligence

Watching China watching US GSSAP satellites. Another insightful paper by Kristin Burke of the USAF's China Aerospace Studies Institute (CASI) examining PRC's tracking of GSSAP satellites. https://lnkd.in/eU7rTMux (airuniversity.af.edu URL). GSSAP satellites have been operational for more than 10 years. Their on-orbit activities constitutes ex facto establishment of behavior norms by the US in geosynchronous (GEO) orbit. #SpaceDomainNormsOfBehavior #SpaceDomainAwareness

What did we learn from the Air & Space Forces Association Warfighters in Action event with Lieutenant General Moore. We learned that the future year programming budget for the United States Air Force is looking at deploying a wide variety of massive capabilities (including the Sentinel missile, the T-7, a new tanker, and the NGAD) and if we want to win the next big fight - we need affordable mass to scale and deploy thousands of aircrafts. The United States Air Force is committed to investing in these programs; however, it can’t fund all of them at the same time and some programs are getting delayed. It’s critical for us that we incorporate the lessons learned from industry, such as Amazon, SpaceX and others, into the way we execute and budget if we want to deploy these capabilities in the next generation. Watch to learn more. For answers to your questions or to learn more, feel free to reach out to Joey Arora @ joey@theoutpost.com.

Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) has awarded Airbus the SATCOMBw 3 prime contract for the next generation secure military satellite system which includes geostationary satellites as well as ground segment, launch and operation for 15 years. The spacecraft are due to be deployed before the end of the decade and the contract value amounts to EUR 2.1 billion. Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, said: “After the success of the SATCOMBw Stage 2 programme, which we have been delivering since 2009, this latest contract reinforces our strategic partnership with the Bundeswehr, providing them with a greatly enhanced secure milsatcom capability that is future proofed into the 2040s. At a time when Western democracies are challenged and where the European institutional space ecosystem is struggling, we are excited and grateful to develop and build this leading-edge system. Long term partnerships are crucial to guaranteeing essential sovereignty and capability, and protecting our armed forces in the increasingly unstable geo-political environment.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d9ecZs4B #Germany #space #satelite #communication #armedforces #Bundeswehr #industry #technology #military #SATCOM

It is quite clear than Link 16 will be with us along with it is 95 per cent fully compatible F series messages few decades ahead of us. Lessons learn from Ukraine war will challenge how to integrate non secure links into MDO and combat cloud.
Last week, the Space Development Agency (SDA) announced another successful testing milestone with Link 16. In addition to successfully demonstrating the first-ever Link 16 network entry from low-Earth orbit to a Navy ship operating in international waters, SDA was able to enhance its operational realism for several test cases by also transmitting Link 16 messages from the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (#PWSA) Tranche 0 constellation to an aircraft parked on the carrier’s deck. These successful tests continue to demonstrate using Link 16 utility from space to other DoD assets. The recent space to ship demonstration success follows the first-ever Link 16 network entry from space to ground during tests beginning in November 2023. The continuing demonstrations highlight the potential capability for beyond-line-of-sight targeting, improving real-time situational awareness, and global connectivity for the joint warfighter. These tests lay the foundation for more complex Tranche 0 Link 16 testing while accelerating the operationalization of Tranche 1 Link 16 capabilities. #SemperCitius #PWSA #Satellites #Space #Defense #Army #Navy #Marines #AirForce #SpaceForce #Link16

The proliferation of capabilities in space among our main adversaries is becoming increasingly concerning. Space is becoming an increasingly contested domain and decision advantage and freedom to maneuvre is not something western militaries can take for granted.

Celestia TTI (TTI) and Indra, as the national industrial coordinator of the NGWS/FCAS program in Spain, have reached a collaboration agreement to jointly develop next-generation antennas, enabling them to design advanced communications systems for the FCAS program. More specifically, they will work on multi-purpose antennas capable of meeting civil and military needs and bands and establishing links with satellite networks in geostationary, high, medium and low orbits. They will also develop internal links to facilitate the integration of the aircraft’s onboard systems, thereby enhancing the distributed data processing and improving situational awareness. Alejandro Serrano, Indra’s Program Manager, stated: “Developing the combat cloud will lead to creating a collaborative space involving multiple air, naval and ground platforms and mark a turning point in the world of defence. The agreement we’ve reached with Celestia TTI will enable us to accelerate its development in the field of communications and explore new concepts and technologies that will shape the future of defence”.
