Supply Chain Investment Banking/North American Trucking Solutions/Today’s Trucking Columnist/NEXT Canada/YPO
Are you or anyone you know looking to jump start their career but lack experience? Rite Route Supply Chain Solutions recently hired a server from a local restaurant. Before we hired them we never asked about their: • work experience • level of education • grades in school • references Why? Because we don’t think these “things” are important. After watching them take care of customers for three years we did know they were: • hard working • reliable • engaging • passionate These are qualities we covet. Qualities impossible to garner in a job interview. Actions speak louder than words. It’s our job to turn them into supply chain professionals like we have successfully done with every one of our employees. None of them had any supply chain experience before they were hired. Business is booming. Our strategy is working. We need more people who possess the core principles we covet. Hire for attitude! Awesome Mike!!
So refreshing to see this line of thinking in your hiring process Mike "Ace" McCarron. My best hires were “character” hires in unrelated fields.
Love this Mike, hire for character and teach the skills to do the job.

9moYou can't teach work ethic and commitment. Many experiences can be cross trainable/relatable. The character of an individual is what you is what you can get a git feel for. I know a few people looking at the moment an understand the discouragement they feel with no previous experience, and how tough that feels. Thanks for sharing Mike.
