A low-water future will occur for many in the U.S., encompassing diverse water needs from advanced manufacturing to farming. Water research will play a vital role in developing advanced technology and enhancing farming efficiency to sustain growing populations. Kansas State University's Water Research Institute, backed by funding from the State of Kansas, is at the forefront. Multidisciplinary researchers are actively involved in preparing for the coming low-water future. #NextGenKState #GoCats

Today, April 22 is the Earth Day. I want to take the opportunity to share an essential and inspiring documentary. "Kiss the ground" is an eye-opening film and at the same time motivating. It explains what we did that led our planet to the current state of collapse, but it also shows us where the concrete solution lies and how we can contribute to reversing it. It is an excellent documentary to raise awareness and transform it into action. Enjoy and share it! https://lnkd.in/gYBjaw2A

In our latest Faces of #PhenoRob video we introduce you to Dario Schulz. 👨🏼💻 🌾 Interested in the impacts of agricultural innovation, Dario’s research at PhenoRob CP6 and the Institute of Food- and Resource Economics (ILR) has focused on the feasibility and eco-economic impact assessment of PhenoRob-like technologies. 💻📊 🌍 He has worked on a whole range of fascinating research questions, such as why do the impacts of technologies vary on a global scale? Or how effective are forest conservation policies and programs? 🛰️🌳 😍 During his time at PhenoRob, he used the international network for a research stay abroad at the ETH Zurich. 🏔🇨🇭 We thank Dario for his work at PhenoRob and wish him all the best for the future. 👏 Learn more about Dario and the reasons for his research abroad in the video below! 👇 https://lnkd.in/gTNXum5f Many thanks to Ole Lentfer for producing the video. #CP6 #TechnologyAdoption #ImpactAssessment #ETHZürich #PhD

Millions of people around the world rely on #farmedfish as a critical source of nutrition - and, as the impact of climate change increases, so does the need to improve the productivity of #aquaculture. 🐟 Working with WorldFish we're applying the latest genome technologies to investigate existing genetic diversity in the Nile tilapia - a fish widely farmed in freshwater aquaculture due to its adaptability to environmental conditions and its ease of feeding. 🧬 🎞️ Watch this new film from Illumina to learn more about the research: https://okt.to/jutAQb #NovaSeqX #genomics #sequencing #technology

Come along? Learn to use and practice some great tools for Futures Thinking, so you can help others to imagine multiple futures.
Don't get defensive.* I have been a vegan for 10 years.** Would you be willing to listen to animals that are farmed for food? This is a question I was left pondering following our Signals from the Future virtual impact session with Melissa Clark-Reynolds ONZM, ChFInstD. This is a wee taste of the interesting and impactful provocations that Melissa's insights offer. If you are interested in our one-day Futures by Design workshop with Melissa, please check out the link in the comments below. *It is never a good idea to start any conversation by asking people to not behave in a certain way, particularly if you are then going to intentionally provoke them. 😬 **It is never a good idea to assume a position of moral superiority. 😬 #futuresthinking

The majority of scientists are still using animal-based products in their labs. Why? A study in Engineering in Life Sciences surveyed scientists across the globe about this issue. They found that the most common reasons for opting for animal products were: a lack of awareness of alternatives, a desire to stick to existing lab protocols, and the lack of funding available. It's not all doom and gloom, though. 61% of the respondents said they would be interested to learn more about animal-free alternatives. We hope to see more researchers overcoming the hurdles they face to pioneer better, more humane science. 📄 Read the full study: https://lnkd.in/eQSqrCJ8 #NAMs #InVitroResearch #LifeSciences

In the realm of biological products for agriculture, embracing radical honesty is paramount. This is true in #agtech more broadly, but especially when the complex and unpredictable dynamics of biology are involved This means diverse trials across different soils And transparency about both effectiveness and limitations And more! In our latest #AgtechSoWhat episode, Sarah Nolet and Joel Lipsitch delve into HOW investors, farmers, and others can evaluate and build biologicals businesses, from pricing strategies and science to performance guarantees and novel business models.
