🌴 Embracing True Vacation Time: A Leadership Mandate 🌴 As leaders, it’s imperative we set the tone for a healthy work-life balance within our teams. I recently shared insights on how to enforce genuine vacation time, ensuring our employees truly disconnect and recharge. Here are the key takeaways: 🫵 Prioritize Rest: Encourage your team to fully unplug during vacations. This means no emails, no calls, and no work. It’s crucial for rejuvenation and long-term productivity. 👉 Implement Clear Policies: We adopted a “If you’re wired, you’re fired” approach to emphasize the importance of taking real breaks. This might sound strict, but it underscores our commitment to our team’s well-being. 🤷 Set Boundaries with Exceptions: Understandably, there may be critical exceptions (like major deals closing). However, these should be the exception, not the rule. Setting clear guidelines helps manage expectations. 👥 Lead by Example: As leaders, we must practice what we preach. Taking undisturbed time off sets a powerful example for our team. 👀 Observe and Adjust: Notice the impact on your team. Are they returning more refreshed and ready to excel? Adjust your strategies based on feedback and results. Creating an environment where vacations are taken seriously benefits everyone. It leads to more rested, happier, and ultimately more productive employees. Let’s challenge ourselves to be leaders who not only advocate for hard work but also for the well-deserved rest. #Leadership #WorkLifeBalance #VacationPolicy #EmployeeWellbeing #TeamManagement

QUIET VACATIONING: What is it and how does it impact leaders and employees? As a part of my ongoing research to develop leadership capabilities and service tuning for career coaching services, I regularly research the driving reasons and behaviors resulting in the disengagement of people at work. Recently I came across this insightful article. It provides interestening insights for people leaders to see what watch for. Quiet vacationing refers to employees taking time off work without formal notice and this new trend, which is popular among younger workers, was highlighted in a recent survey by market research firm The Harris Poll. The report found that 28 per cent of workers have taken time off without formally asking for it from their employer. One of the driving reasons for Quiet vacationing is that employees struggle to mentally disconnect from their work. They feel pressure to always be connected and report working around the clock even during their time off. The article covers: ? WHAT is quit vacationing ? WHY employees do it There is no one simple or one-size-fit all solution to address this phenomenom, but the question I'm starting to asking myself is: What can we as leaders to do to: 1. promote working culture that drives optimum and sustainable performance enabling people taking time off? 2. support people to enjoy their time without worrying about work? Do you have any tips, experience or insights on this topic? I'm including the link to this article in the comment below. __________ Hi, I'm Adri. A recent Perceptyx survey found that 72% of employees work while on vacation, highlighting blurred boundaries between work and personal time. This trend of "workcationing" is linked to potential burnout, with both planned and unplanned workcationers struggling to fully disconnect. HR leaders should address the issue by encouraging managers to take time off themselves, ensuring workloads are manageable, and conducting surveys to understand why employees feel the need to work during vacations. https://lnkd.in/ehxwy_Hu #vacations #hr #survey #leadership #management

Unplugging for Vacation as a Leader, Executive, and Business Owner As I leave on a road trip with my husband to unplug for a week to celebrate our wedding anniversary, I’m reminded of the importance of taking time to recharge. For fellow leaders, executives, and business owners, here are three ways to set yourself up for a successful vacation: 1. Delegate and Empower Your Team - Before you leave, ensure your team is well-prepared to handle ongoing tasks. Delegate responsibilities clearly and empower your team members to make decisions in your absence. This not only keeps the business running smoothly but also fosters a sense of ownership and growth among your team. - Recommended Reading: “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey. 2. Set Clear Boundaries and Expectations - Communicate your vacation plans to your team, clients, and other stakeholders. Set clear boundaries regarding your availability and establish who will handle urgent matters. Use tools like automated email responses to manage expectations and direct inquiries to the appropriate contacts. - Recommended Reading: “Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less” by Greg McKeown. 3. Plan and Schedule Ahead - Prepare a detailed plan outlining key tasks and deadlines that will occur during your absence. Ensure that your calendar is up to date and that all necessary meetings and projects are scheduled ahead of time. This minimizes the chances of disruptions and ensures continuity. - Recommended Reading: “Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity” by David Allen. Taking this time to unplug isn’t just beneficial for me; it’s also crucial for the health and success of my business. By delegating effectively, setting clear boundaries, and planning ahead, I can ensure a smooth and stress-free vacation. #Leadership #ExecutiveLife #BusinessOwner #WorkLifeBalance #Delegation #Boundaries #PlanningAhead #WeddingAnniversary #Recharge

The Latest Trend: Quiet Vacationing A recent Forbes article (link below!) has brought attention to a new workplace trend: quiet vacationing. But a quick search reveals even more trends out there. This seems to be a business phenomenon that gained traction post-COVID. Social media is now creating new workplace trends every few months. Why Are These Trends Catching On? Why do these trends resonate with so many people? Does this imply that businesses have changed so much in recent years, or is it a festering issue brought to light by a more outspoken generation entering the workforce? The Role of Empathy In my view, empathy is a crucial factor. Many people are promoted to managerial positions due to years of experience or service but lack the ability to exercise empathy at the workplace towards their subordinates and colleagues. This issue is particularly pronounced when transitioning from an individual contributor to a people manager without adequate training or understanding of their new role. The Disconnect This disconnect leads to poor communication with managers, who then fail to understand what their subordinates or teammates are experiencing. It takes courage for organizations to promote someone who excels less as an individual contributor but has the potential to be a great people manager. A high-performing individual contributor might struggle in a managerial role, causing the team to suffer and lowering overall morale and motivation. What do you think the next workplace trend will be? Vacation is a must-have, for all leaders at all levels. 🌴✨ A 2014 study by audit firm EY revealed some eye-opening insights: for every additional 10 hours of vacation time employees take, their year-end performance improves by 8%. 📈 Those who take vacations more often see a clear increase in creativity, happiness, and productivity, both at work and outside of it. But wait, there's more! Vacation is also much more important for bodily health than I had originally thought. In a study of 749 women, researchers found that those who went on vacation twice a year were eight times less likely to develop heart problems than those who didn’t. Regularly decreasing stress hormones by taking time off can also mitigate the risk of other serious illnesses. Finally, time off can be an excellent opportunity to tune out some of life’s chaos and re-center. So next time you're feeling overwhelmed or on the verge of burnout, remember: taking that vacation isn't just a luxury—it's an investment in your well-being and future success. 🌟 How do you prioritize your time off?
