Question: What is the “social expectation” of a #widow? (I googled it) “When a woman’s value is contingent on having a spouse, #widowhood can force women out of familial and social structures, leaving them particularly vulnerable to #poverty, #isolation, and #violence. These challenges may be compounded by struggles that widows face on account of other intersecting identities: as Black and Indigenous women, members of LGBTQI+ communities, women affected by conflict, women with disabilities, women of young and older ages, women living in poverty or rural areas, and other marginalized identities.” THIS topic will be included in our virtual 2024 Widow Empowerment Event - Saturday | Sept. 28 11-5pm ET. Widow educational webinars are vital to raise awareness and the voices of these beautiful women. https://lnkd.in/eRRmDy9 #widowadvocate #WEE2024 #poverty #widowhood

We know it's after the fact but for us it still bears announcing: Sunday was International Non-Binary People’s Day! We at A Way Home America understand the impacts of the gender binary in our societies, and we know that it simply is not an expansive-enough construct to apply to persons/peoples in the world. Our mission explicitly names LGBTQIA+ folks (among others) as a target audience for which we want to end and prevent homelessness. Additionally, some of our Core Principles are to 1) Recognize and Center Intersectionality & 2) Shift Power to Youth and Young Adults. The intersectional youth we work with deserve to lead the work that impacts them in the Homelessness Movement. Despite which letter in the acronym you feel you fall into (or don’t), we want you to know that we SEE you and we are here to support you in our mission, as a non-binary person. Happy visibility and strength to all of our non-binary neighbors, friends, and co-conspirators! A Way Home America’s mission is to transform systems through public policy to prevent and end homelessness for Black, Indigenous, youth of color, and LGBTQIA+ youth, on a path to housing justice for all. www.AWayHomeAmerica.org #endyouthhomelessness #nonbinary #homeless #homelessyouth #housingisahumanright

One thing we've learned in working with women in our Young Life circles is that loss is not a foreign concept, and many women have (or will) experience widowhood. As a result, we've build up a special space for serving and connecting women who have experienced widowhood. Please help us spread the word, and share this if anyone comes to mind. https://lnkd.in/gJsUWS34

Read full article here: https://lnkd.in/eHhjaDxD Research on intersectionality in public administration reveals the diversity of marginalized groups and provides greater understanding of the ways intersecting identities influence inter- and intra-communal relationships. This article highlights the nuances that exist at the intersection of LGBTQIA+ and Jewish identities and how intersectionality can inform public service and engagement with minoritized populations in public and nonprofit organizations. The authors use LGBTQIA+ Jewish communities to construct four tenets of intersectionality—multiple and mutually constitutive identities, dynamic processes in managing multiple identities, discrimination within identities, and intersectional organizations—and discuss their relevance to public administration. #NonprofitAdvocacyLab #Research #UF #FriendsoftheLab

Founder/Executive Director at WomenStrong International Lifting up women’s voices and solutions to advance global development.
Many thanks to Equality Now, for publishing this important piece, "5 Things You Should Know About Widows’ Rights In The MENA Region" -- the article sheds light on the seemingly ageold plight of widows across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), underscoring how discriminatory laws and social stigmas deprive widows of inheritance rights, thereby exacerbating their vulnerability to poverty and social exclusion. The piece calls for urgent legal reforms and societal shifts, to ensure that widows receive equitable treatment and support, and emphasizes as well the need for international standards to protect widows' rights. The intersection of cultural norms and legal frameworks perpetuates the stigmatization against widows, affecting their access to economic opportunities and social inclusion; how, finally, can communities and governments succeed, in combatting longstanding social biases and empower widows economically and socially? Of course, discrimination against widows is rampant also in OTHER parts of the world, including further south, in parts of the African continent, further east, in south and southeast Asia, and right here in the U.S.A., when the so-called social safety net can no longer honestly simply be called "frayed," when it has in fact been pulverized. Yet, clearly, this IS an issue in the MENA region, as the Equality Now piece demonstrates -- so what current global efforts and strategies, WHEREVER they're situated, are showing effectiveness in protecting widows’ rights, and how can international human rights standards be leveraged to advocate for humane reforms in countries in the MENA region, and well beyond? Have a read, and share your thoughts, on how to protect those who have spent their lifetimes nurturing and protecting us! S. At Modern Widows Club, we understand the importance of recognizing and supporting women who face the greatest exclusions for equity - #widows. Did you know that 70% of all married women will become a widow in their lifetime? For many, several times in their lifetime. Yet, #widowhood remains an invisible status in society with women's events, programs, services and philanthropy, leaving millions of women to face the number one most stressful life event without support. According to the United Nations Progress on the Sustainability Development Goals, it will take 286 years to close the global gender gap. Women’s representation in positions of power and decision-making remains below parity. By recognizing the accomplishments of women, we value her contribution while inspiring other women to do the same. - Universal Womens Network™ | Women-Owned The 2016 Global Widows Report identifies four primary causes of suffering among widows globally: financial instability, disinheritance, government neglect, and social exclusion. Inclusion is the first step towards educating others about the catastrophic impacts of the other three issues. It's essential for widow advocates to be represented in all women's initiatives discussing women's issues, as currently, this representation is lacking. We believe that caring for women's causes means also caring for the largest women's cause that remains invisible for support - #widowsupport. Let's inspire change for all women by recognizing and supporting widows. We welcome allies to inspire necessary change in research, philanthropy, government, and social justice. 🌍 Today is International Widows Day. The UN recognises this day.https://https://lnkd.in/e4WZGxH6 This year, I find myself saying, sadly, that I am a widow too. 💔 As widows, we all move through our own experiences of grief, loss, or trauma after the death of a spouse. 🌿 Globally, women may also face economic insecurity, discrimination, stigmatisation, and harmful traditional practices due to their marital status. 🚫💸 Despite there being more than 258 million widows around the world, widows have historically been left unseen, unsupported, and unmeasured in our societies. This day is an opportunity for action towards achieving full rights and recognition for widows. 📢 📝 Key areas for action include: Inheritance rights 🏡: Ensuring access to a fair share of inheritance, land, and productive resources. Pensions and social protection 👵: Providing support that is not based on marital status alone. Decent work and equal pay 💼: Advocating for fair employment opportunities. Education and training 📚: Offering education and training opportunities. Empowering widows to support themselves and their families also means addressing social stigmas that create exclusion and discriminatory or harmful practices. 💪🌟 Today, I sadly but proudly stand with the many widows around the world to support them and ensure their voices are heard. Join me. 🤝💜 #InternationalWidowsDay #SupportWidows #Empowerment #Equality #HumanRights #StandTogether

States Kidnapping Kids from Christian Homes Jun 18, 2024 Child Protective Services (CPS) employees in two states have removed children from their homes and terminated their Christian parents’ rights — all because the parents refused to affirm their child’s gender dysphoria and put their children on dangerous cross-sex hormones. If passed, HR 15, the deliberately misnamed “Equality Act,” will make horrific stories like these common practice, and there won’t be a thing parents can do to protect their children from the “transification” of America. With the recent vacancies in Congress, there is now just a razor-thin, one-vote margin between House Democrats and Republicans. This bill is dangerously close to passing, if we don’t raise a massive ruckus now. Read on. — Your Faith & Liberty team https://lnkd.in/gQAgNVQp
