VACCINE SAFETY - PHARSAFER & RAPTAR Having worked with vaccines for over 30 years we have seen some tremendous steps forward with the diversity of use of vaccines from infectious diseases to cancer prevention and of course COVID-19. We are delighted to be presenting at the conference looking at the unique aspects of vaccine safety as opposed to medicines etc... and looking at new ways of monitoring the safety of vaccines globally via automation of the specific safety case processing aspects unique to vaccines via our RAPTAR system which promotes accuracy, speed, targeted safety aspects, follow up and works in any safety database. All of these naturally contribute to better signal detection and earlier analysis of potential risks. So, just as we look at the advances with vaccines for treatments it is time to look at advancing the pharmacovigilance at the same time. I’m happy to share that we have published our paper, “Replicate Testing of Clinical Endpoints Can Prevent No-Go Decisions for Beneficial Vaccines” in Vaccines. This work grew out of our efforts to grapple with the possibility of false positives in assays used to count infection cases: even a seemingly low false positive rate can impact estimates of vaccine efficacy and the decisions that depend on these estimates. We propose a simple, pragmatic, inexpensive approach to reducing this risk enough that it is unlikely to impact program decisions. Our R code (https://lnkd.in/g9Mx9RHN) estimates how assay properties, frequency of testing, and other factors will impact trial probability of success and duration. (This is the R Shiny app used for producing manuscript figures.)
