Nutritional support proves critical to successfully halting the ill effects of peripheral neuropathy (PN). How? By boosting nitric oxide levels, which leads to better circulation and improved functionality. Of course, patients struggling with neuropathy should also eat to support their general health and well-being. And this means steering them towards nitrate-rich foods and beneficial supplements. When following a low carb/ketogenic diet, the reduction in water weight is not only a positive indicator of enhanced metabolic health but also a key factor in the improvement of blood pressure. This reduction in water weight occurs through a series of mechanisms: 1. Glycogen Stores Depletion: As the body utilizes glycogen for energy, it releases water that was previously bound to the glycogen molecules. This leads to the excretion of excess water from the body. 2. Decreased Insulin Levels: High levels of insulin in the body can result in the retention of salt and water by the kidneys. When insulin levels drop due to a low carb diet, the body starts excreting excess sodium and water. 3. Ketones Osmotic Diuresis: In the state of ketosis, not all produced ketones are used by the body and a significant portion is expelled through urine. Ketones have an osmotic effect, causing water to be flushed out as well. 4. Electrolyte Changes: The body strives to maintain stable electrolyte concentrations in the blood, often at the expense of blood volume. As potassium and magnesium, among other electrolytes, are lost, the body excretes more water to preserve stable electrolyte levels. Due to these physiological changes, it is essential to prioritize electrolyte replacement and adequate hydration to prevent side effects like the "keto flu" while on a low carb/ketogenic diet.

A more natural way to boost your GLP-1 than injecting semaglutides.
Higher protein diets may be an effective tool for promoting weight loss and reversing prediabetes. In this small RCT, obese folks who followed a high protein diet, as opposed to a high carbohydrate diet, had higher levels of GLP-1 and gastric inhibitory polypeptide which may support better insulin sensitivity and better pancreatic beta cell function.
