⭐️ Reverse Mentoring ⭐️ Simply the opposite format of traditional mentoring, where the senior employee is mentored by a younger or more junior employee. 👩🏻👴🏽 In this fast and dynamic work environments and in light of the increasing percentage of Generation Z within organizations, one of the practices that I recommend is reverse mentoring. This practice opens additional channels of learning, reduce the skill gap, foster innovation, and brings fresh perspectives. What do you think about this practice??

Reverse mentoring has long been a highly effective tool for supporting succession planning, organisational upskilling and knowledge transfers. Age is just a number, and should never solely dictate who is qualified to mentor who.

A fresh perspective on mentoring in our industry: Mentoring - a word that’s used so often yet is it truly understood? Do we even appreciate the golden value it brings in property and construction? Mentoring isn’t just about sharing knowledge, it's about cultivating an environment where learning is encouraged and dialogue is inviting. While many may see it as a one-way street, it's actually reciprocal - mentors gain insights too. It's time to rethink traditional mentoring models. Let's focus on fusing experience with innovation. It’s not about shaking up the status quo but rather bringing different generations together to find a common ground in the industry. In conclusion, let's make mentoring meaningful by encouraging open discussions and diverse thought processes. The construction & property industry stands to benefit immensely from this approach.

Creative problem solving expert and Moving Ahead Ambassador, Kirk Vallis, shares the idea of everyday mentoring moments in this month's edition of Connect, our mentoring and development newsletter. “Formal mentoring structures are vital for giving people the permission to seek out new perspectives. But we can also benefit from informal mentoring moments every single day. In this dynamic, I’m not confined to the role of mentor or mentee – I can be both. Whenever I come up against a challenge where I would benefit from fresh eyes, I can play the role of a mentee just by seeking input from others around me. The same is true vice versa; when someone approaches me for advice, that’s a mentoring moment. An opportunity for me to make suggestions based on my experience that may unlock something for others. The key is to embrace both formal programmes and everyday mentoring moments as chances to grow. Shift your mindset to see every interaction as a learning opportunity.” Sign up here to receive future editions of Connect: https://lnkd.in/giEEugdZ

Reverse Mentoring is a practice where junior employees provide guidance to managers. It is the opposite of traditional mentoring, where the more experienced employee or manager trains the less experienced employee. In reverse mentoring, new employees take on the role of guiding managers in topics such as technology and social media.

9moI think it is key to keep open to such practice. However, it shall be well structured from top management in terms of how to mentor or and how to be memtored. Age is not the only factor, there is nunance. In some jobs as mid or executive, I have managed older team members who were seniors, mid or even juniors. In other job, my line manager was 10 years younger than me. All were enriching since age was not on the table of focus. Experience in specific job is not related to the age and shall not be a factor. It is more about the leadership style and alignment in values. I once worked with a line manager who is significantly older than me with also experience in the subject matter, but had weak leadership skills
