In the last posts I spoke mostly about electrified solutions, including for mining haul trucks. That solution will not fit all use cases. We have therefore also developed a haul truck that can run on hydrogen. It ran for the first time last week. Next month, we will fully test it at our test site in the Pilbara. This new haul truck contains both a battery as well as fuel cells. The fuel cells turn hydrogen into power. The truck can then be propelled with power from the batteries and / or power from the fuel cells. What I especially like is that we now see the benefits of the modular power system that has been developed by Fortescue Zero (formally known as Fortescue WAE, our zero-emission technology division in the UK). Where the fully-electric haul truck has 8 battery "modules", this hydrogen truck has 3. So we have effectively swapped 5 battery modules for fuel cells and hydrogen tanks. We're developing plenty of other zer-emission power systems already for other applications - and each of them is a different combination of the Fortescue Zero battery modules. Simples, really - though our design engineers will probably take offense at that labelling!

Hydrogen is making more and more sense, and automobile manufacturers are seeing this, slowly and quietly moving away from battery-powered EVs. Could hydrogen save the automobile from the issues associated with lithium-powered vehicles?

Good to see that entire world of focusing into reducing the carbon emission. #greenhydrogen will substitute use of diesel very soon. #greenhydrogen may be used with three different technologies ie Hydrogen IC engine or Hydrogen EV fuel cell or Hydrogen-diesel hybrid engine. These innovations will not only reduce the operational cost but also reduce the carbon emissions and serves better for mankind and nature .

Daimler Truck and Linde Engineering have introduced a new fueling technology for liquid hydrogen named sLH2, aimed at becoming the standard for hydrogen-powered trucks. The technology features an innovative pump that enhances the fueling process by converting hydrogen into subcooled liquid hydrogen (sLH2), offering a more robust and energy-efficient solution compared to conventional liquid hydrogen (LH2) refueling methods. After some tumultuous times, it's great to see some good news from Nikola Corporation! Nikola Corporation and AiLO Logistics have announced a significant order for 100 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks, set for delivery in 2025. This follows AiLO’s previous order of 50 trucks, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable logistics and environmental stewardship. This move highlights the growing demand for zero-emissions solutions in the logistics industry, especially in high-traffic areas like the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Hello everyone I saw this promotional post today to which only group members can comment. That is why I’m reposting it. Firstly I like innovations, and I think as a car, it’s design and the love to detail is gorgeous I have however currently only 5 questions which would be nice to get some answers to: 1– How will the refill and distribution network of the hydrogen cells work? 2– what are the hydrogen upstream requirements and what is here the current status? 3– what is the safe driving distance with a mix of city and Autobahn 🛣️ driving? 4– in terms of road safety, what are the safety measures in case of a potential car accident where other vehicles drive into the rear where the hydrogen cells are located? 5– what will be the expected costs of hydrogen fuel per 100 km driven? Plug Power has developed a new hydrogen-powered truck An innovative Class 6 hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck, which is suitable for middle-mile, medium-duty deliveries, has been developed by Plug Power. Plug Power’s truck is able to travel up to 500 miles, through the use of an electric propulsion system, which has been proven to be successful within the industry. The electric propulsion system is efficiently powered by Plug’s ProGen fuel cell technology. It’s ability to travel up to 500 miles, will be extremely important for middle-mile deliveries and another advantage, is that the vehicle does not need a commercial driver’s license (CDL) for operation. This makes the vehicle better for the environment and it makes it more accessible for a wider variety of drivers. At the moment, the truck is fully developed and is in its final integration and testing phase. The plan for the summer of 2024 is for the operational pilots to commence and this will be done through a collaboration with Plug’s key market leader logistic customers. Performing these tests and completing the final phase will provide the company with valuable real-world data and feedback and will therefore provide them with the opportunity for future improvements and other developments.
