What makes us who we are? We could write ✍️ all day about Fortescue, but here's a better idea.💡 Hear from Sinead Booth, Head of Decarbonisation Delivery, about what makes Fortescue unique and how decarbonisation is uncomfortable, but in a good way.
About us
We're a proud West Australian company, recognised for our culture, Values, innovation and industry leading development of infrastructure and mining assets. As one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore producers, Fortescue is now shipping at an annual rate of over 180 million tonnes with more than 1.7 billion tonnes of iron ore delivered to our customers since 2008. Through our green energy and technology company FFI, we are rapidly diversifying our business to become an integrated, global green energy and resources company. Key to this transition are our industry leading targets to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and net zero Scope 3 emissions by 2040. For our size and scale, there is no other mining company in the world that is taking the action we are to eliminate emissions.

Economist Richard Denniss, Executive Director of The Australia Institute, discusses why others should follow Fortescue’s lead to move away from fossil fuels and adopt a Real Zero target by 2040 ⬇️
-
We're leading the global mining industry to stop burning fossil fuels and go Real Zero. The technology is here and by the end of this decade, we'll have developed and deployed the green technologies needed to eliminate our Australian terrestrial emissions. We don't have any time or money for carbon offsets or carbon capture and storage. We want the rest of the world to raise their ambitions too. As we approach #COP29, we urge governments and businesses to lay out ambitious and science-based transition plans for achieving #RealZero emissions by 2040.

A science-based target needs a plan to deliver it. We welcome the call by over 100 members of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders for all firms to set science-based emissions reduction targets and lay out ambitious climate transition plans. It backs practical action Fortescue is already taking, both to eliminate fossil fuels and reach Real Zero by 2030 and to report on our progress. The Alliance represents over $4 trillion in revenues and 12 million employees globally. By moving toward eliminating emissions at their source, we can keep the global temperature goals of the Paris Agreement in reach. Read the open letter ➡️ https://fts.cu/4eJ1Ors

"Real Zero 2040 is achievable. We have the technology, we have the capital. We have, I think, the leadership. Let's lead." Fortescue founder Andrew Forrest at the Berlin Global Dialogue last week. Demand Real Zero 2040. https://fts.cu/3zSFj47

We don’t have any more time or money to waste on carbon offsets or carbon capture and storage. At Fortescue, we'll stop burning fossil fuels in our mining operations by 2030. Our founder Dr Andrew Forrest told CNBC during Climate Week, governments and businesses need to lift their ambitions and commit to Real Zero by 2040. https://fts.cu/3TZprU5

Achieving a just transition does not mean accepting a slow transition. At the Berlin Global Dialogue, Dr Forrest laid out our roadmap for delivering Real Zero. Our plan is a practical plan. It is grounded in science and backed by a proven record of industrial delivery. By the end of the decade, Fortescue will have developed and deployed the green technologies needed to eliminate emissions. We will deliver on our target without a reliance on voluntary carbon offsets or unproven solutions like carbon capture and storage. Taking early action is both the right thing to do, and the smart thing to do. It will help drive technology availability and achieve cost reductions that enable wide-scale uptake. Ahead of COP 29, we call on national leaders and industrialists to lay out ambitious and science-based transition plans for achieving Real Zero emissions by no later than 2040. Our founder Dr Andrew Forrest with Board Directors Mark Barnaba and Dr Jean Baderschneider after launching our Climate Transition Plan at #ClimateWeekNYC. A science-based target needs an industrial delivery plan to make it real and show Real Zero by 2030.
