Living with a chronic illness can present unique challenges, but with the right strategies, you can enhance your well-being and maintain a fulfilling life. Here are some tips for navigating life with a chronic illness: 👉 Educate Yourself: Learn about your condition, treatment options, and how to manage symptoms. Knowledge empowers you to make informed decisions about your health. 👉 Build a Support System: Surround yourself with understanding and supportive friends, family, and healthcare professionals. Having a reliable support network can make a significant difference. 👉 Communication is Key: Keep open lines of communication with your healthcare team. Discuss your concerns, questions, and any changes in your symptoms or treatment plan. Remember that everyone's journey is unique, and it's essential to find strategies that work best for you. Regular communication with your healthcare team ensures a tailored approach to managing your specific condition.

Retirement HEALTH Specialist * Medipreneurs Summit *Speaker * Author * Geriatric Specialist * Creative Problem Solver
Navigating healthcare - In the past month: - 16 phone calls to the physician's office - 10 My Chart pleas to be seen - Office 'sit in' without an appointment to beg for an appointment - Orders for crucial diagnostic tests with instructions to make calls and see where we could get them scheduled (do-it-yourself healthcare) - 30 hours in the ER (including observation unit) advocating the whole way to not be released without some answers and one of the crucial tests. - Finally access to a highly qualified specialist who spent 1.5 hours with her two days after the ER!!! No answers, but feeling like we are in good hands to find them. Do you know how to advocate for yourself and navigate healthcare? I saw people angry, giving up, threatening, cussing, getting physical, sobbing, hysterical, screaming. None of that helps you navigate. I am now on fire to share techniques for you and your family! Learn to politely yet assertively get the care you need, be prepared with all of the information you need, know with whom you need to share that information and how, and manage your emotions as you do it. https://lnkd.in/dtBRK4SM

Worksite Health Promotion Strategy & Engagement Expert | Data Driven | Articulate Communicator | Focused on Building Strong Client Relationships | Passionate About Improving Population Health
I’ve had versions of this conversation a lot this week. So it feels worth sharing. Building relationships of trust is important. Most would agree, but why and how can we leverage them to take better care of ourselves? In the world of being a human or “patient” with some sort of health related concern, need, condition etc. those relationships of trust are especially valuable. Why? Because when you’re navigating a need related to health—often a more vulnerable time—having someone you trust to reach out to is not only easier, reducing barriers to getting care, but also more likely to result in getting the right care, how you need it, when you need it. How? Take advantage of opportunities to form a relationship of trust with a health care provider, health coach, therapist or other. Those people, that “care team” is a bit like knowing you have family you can call or friends or neighbors that would drop something to help you out. In my humble opinion we all ought to be able to name one health related professional we can easily reach out to in a time of need, whether that is for support, guidance, treatment, navigation etc. You’re worth it.
