Cadbury UK has managed to win my heart with their recent campaign to celebrate their 200th birthday 💜 The visuals are simple yet effective, with minimal design and a strong story-telling concept to mark the celebration. The real-life imagery tells their story straight away. Cadbury's has been in all our lives for as long as we can remember, so much so that they no longer need flashy visuals and cool typefaces to showcase their values, their brand is fully established and dominates the market already. I love that they've incorporated the milk glasses into the 200 years mark, they've managed to use just enough of the brand to know what this campaign is for in a glance 👀 My fondest memories are the car trips in the UK and having to stop-off at the fuel station, but picking up a Cadburys cream egg as a 'treat'. Unlike the music industry, in advertising it's rather uncommon to remix a hit. Mondelēz International brand Cadbury's celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. VCCP and content arm Girl&Bear remixes its iconic 2018 ad 'Mom's Birthday' (https://lnkd.in/ecGA_VwC). Everyone in the UK knows this film. Almost frame by frame. This film carries the same story, same shot designs, was made by the same cast & crew, but it now travels through 200 years of kindness. There is currently a lot of debate around the assumed wear-out effect of ads. In behavioural science, the 'Mere Exposure Effect' describes a strong preference for things that are familiar, which actually suggests a wear-in effect of older ads. This campaign uses this effect to the max: when, as a viewer, you discover it is a remake of that film you're ever so familiar with, it'll surely make you feel good. A brave choice, as it can be counterintuitive to not go and make something new.
