And you know what else happened in 1994? Guided Insights was born. I started my company in 1994 under a different name, Chrysalis International, meant to reflect the cross-cultural training and change management consulting I was focusing on at the time. Turns out the name confused a lot of people. (“Where are your offices overseas?” “What does chrysalis even mean?”). And after a while, it didn’t really fit the focus of my work, which is designing and facilitating conversations that help people collaborate and communicate openly, easily, and without friction, from wherever they are. I credit Dr. Edgar Schein for my new company name, who showed me how much more powerful it can be to guide peoples’ insights instead of trying to force-feed our own ideas onto them.
