This CBS Sunday Morning story caught my eye. Bernd and Hilla Becher’s industrial art shows that unremarkable structures can be works of art. I couldn't agree more. As an AEC marketer, I try to elevate construction into art and a powerful brand, transforming the "ordinary to extraordinary" with photos. We do that with our talented, professional photographer, Clair Verret, who has this to say after watching this short piece of history: "What a beautiful display of history. I’m always drawn to light and dark coming together with lines and texture all to form something so intriguing to the eye. Photography means “to write with light.” I think in a world so inundated with comparison, social media… aesthetic etc., it’s easy to jump in and try to just imitate what’s popular. I see that a lot, especially in the photography industry. This project is so beautiful because one, it’s clear it was this couple’s life work and passion. And two, it’s so simple. Nothing extravagant. Nothing forced. Nothing trying to be anything other than what it is. And for the most part, everyday places that most don’t give a passing glimpse to. This project has shed the most beautiful kind of light. These represent people and places that were foundational in where we are today." Well said Clair. Very much like my clients. They do a job. 🏺History told in a different way: For the reopening of the Museum Schloss Fürstenberg, GROSSE8 created a video mapping on six porcelain vases. The aesthetic projections take you on a journey through the rich story of porcelain decoration - from landscape painting to modern abstraction. 🎥 Animated films are precisely projected onto the vases. 📢 Call for Artists: The Art of Birds @ Museum of Northern History, Kirkland Lake 📢 The Museum of Northern History invites artists in all stages of their careers to participate in The Art of Birds, celebrating the beauty and inspiration of migratory birds. The Art of Birds highlights the crucial role birds play in maintaining the ecological balance of nature. The artwork in this exhibition honours all aspects of birds – life, habitat, behaviour and physical beauty. The adaptability of birds reminds us to safeguard their habitats and protect their migration routes while the world at large adapts to ongoing climate challenges. Artwork must show birds as a theme with migration as a consideration. Work will be judged on relevance to the topic, originality, artistic prowess, excellence in composition, and design. All forms of birds in art from traditional to contemporary are welcome. Fees:  One entry is $30.  A second entry is an additional $15.  Artists may submit a maximum of two entries. Through the acts of painting, surveying and touring the landscape of Eryri became a site ‘of specific ideological attitudes and ambivalences’. These attitudes, together with particular meanings fixed and circulated on maps and other modes of representation, continue to inform the ways our society perceives landscapes such as Eryri. ‘Newid Eryri/Changing Eryri’ is an interactive exhibition that shines a light on the diverse ways in which Eryri has already undergone change, from the hidden processes intrinsic to shaping our understandings of its landscape, to the more evident physical transformations undertaken by the historic Penrhyn Estate. Through art, sound, maps and other archive materials, visitors will discover how Eryri and our sense of the landscape has changed over time. The main question leading this inquisitive exhibition is: Can learning that landscapes evolve, in physical terms but also in terms of how they are perceived, reduce desires to keep the current landscape as fixed and un-changing? Last week I visited Museo Tiflológico de la ONCE in Madrid. It is a museum designed for people who are blind or have low vision. Everything is labelled with braille. All items can be touched. There are audio guides. It is an impressive example of how to present an inclusive, accessible exhibition. The low lighting and focus on tactile experiences are helpful for people with different impairments and preferences to enjoy and learn about the items on display. Entry is free of charge. ART-CHITECTURE The Extensible Spatial Metaphor EYECANDIES @eyecandiescn × Kui Yuan Gallery @kuiyuangallery , Shanghai, China 16 Dec 2023 - 14 Jan 2024 Departing from the explorations of the aforementioned possibilities, the exhibition comprises three parts of intermediaries with limited materiality, including paintings, drawings, and images, serving as abstract representational symbols associated with intellectual concepts, also inviting a re-examination of the connections and distinctions in creative and experiential approaches between art exhibits and architectural exhibits in a universal cognitive sense through juxtapositions and contrasts.
