#Placemaking must be organic to create long-term value. Public art is an opportunity not only to tell a story within the artwork but an opportunity to tell a larger story about local artistic communities, and an opportunity to humanize abstract forms that can fall flat or even become alienating without context. City Walk BHAM is a great example: https://lnkd.in/e-xPmdJN

Think about the last time you went on a walk. Do you remember seeing any public art? If so, think about some of the details that stood out to you about the artwork and the impact it had on your walk. Public art is all around us, often representing the communities they are located in. Take for instance this maquette from Alexandre Arrechea’s public art series, No Limits. Initially located on Park Avenue, the series featured 10 large sculptures, all inspired by New York's most notable landmarks. This maquette resembles the Sherry Netherland, a historic Hotel on Fifth Avenue. However, notice how the building is not set in its typical vertical position; instead, the artwork loops around, its configuration serving as a reflection of our society's social and political shifts. Take a closer look at the maquette in the image and consider the following questions. - What are some elements within the design of the artwork that stand out to you? - Does it look like the maquette is portraying movement? - Why do you think that Alexandre Arrechea used buildings to symbolize the changes our society undergoes? - Is it important for neighborhoods to have public art? Why might it be beneficial to our society? ___ Alexandre Arrechea (Cuba, b. 1970) Sherry Netherland, 2021 27 x 27 x 3 inches Stainless steel Courtesy of the Artist #LearnWithMOLAA #Slowlookingsunday #MOLAA @AlexandreArrechea

Artificial Rome #INTERPLAY We created a generative installation within the atrium of the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. The seventeen-metre-tall artwork, displayed on a towering screen sculpture spans across three floors of the museum. The permanent installation is visible from every angle inside the atrium. The frames change so that they appear differently at any given time. This means that visitors can experience an ever-changing simulation of the elements every time they pass through the atrium. INTERPLAY is a permanent installation, 10 meters high wrapped in an everlasting simulation of wind and water, causing erosions, while the eroded mountains in return cause the tides to shift. The generative artwork consists of a real-time environment that runs a realistic simulation of how tides and stones interconnect over time. The time variable is sped up one thousandfold, so the visitors of the Humboldt Forum see a simulation of the impact on earth's landscape over the next million years. If you are in Berlin this is not to be missed! #interplay Learn more https://lnkd.in/e7fQns22 Artificial Rome Patrik de Jong Dirk Hoffmann Torsten Sperling-Ufer #artificialrome #interplay #culture #art #artandtechnology #virtualreality #immersiveexperiences #artandculture

🎨 The Art of Restoration: Breathing New Life into the Past 🏛️ There's something truly magical about art restoration—it's a blend of history, science, and creativity. It’s not just about repairing a piece; it’s about preserving the story that each brushstroke tells and respecting the artist's original vision. Every painting, sculpture, or antique has a narrative waiting to be uncovered. Restoring a work of art means diving into its history, understanding the materials, and bringing back the vibrancy that time has dulled. But beyond the technical skills, it's about embracing the responsibility to connect the past with the present, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the beauty and significance of our cultural heritage.

The Pose - A guest curation by Hamilton-Selway Fine Art. Figurative art, a significant presence in the realm of artistic expression, traces its roots back to the earliest cave drawings, notably exemplified in the timeless murals of Chauvet Cave in France. Yet, amidst this enduring tradition, there emerges a distinctive focus on “The Pose,” a nuanced facet that artists have tirelessly honed and refined throughout the years of artistic evolution. Shifting away from the rigidity characteristic of 18th and 19th-century portraiture, a palpable transformation takes shape. Figures, once confined to static representations, now burst forth with dynamic vitality. The artistic trajectory pivots away from stagnation, paving the way for a newfound appreciation of dance-like movements, genuine reactions, and captivating poses. “The Pose” encapsulates a curated selection of works that serve as a testament to the artist’s mastery in portraying movement and a profound sense of expressiveness. In this exploration, the static gives way to the dynamic, and puts the viewer into the realm of kinetic artistry. View: https://lnkd.in/e7s47wr8 #artcurators #artcuration #artcollectors #artgalleries

Frieze Focus 2024: Interconnectivity and Rebellion Against Division. Frieze London’s annual Focus section is held in high esteem as the leading platform for emerging galleries and artists to showcase their innovation and talent. This year’s collaboration with Stone Island showcased thirty-four presentations, a mixture of galleries and solo artists from across five continents. From digital installations and balloon animals to the more traditional mediums of painting and sculpture, the thread that tied a number of the Focus artworks together seemed to be a rebellion against the problematic division that society faces today. A subversion of boundaries and yearning for connection seemed to be the tone of this year’s Focus section at Frieze London 2024. Fostering the connection of galleries and artists from across several continents was Joumana Assily (Founder, Marfa), Piotr Drewko (Founder, Wschód), and Cédric Fauq (Chief curator, CAPC musée d’art contemporain, Bordeaux). The advisors curated thirty-four gallery and solo artist presentations that display the innovative talent of the emerging art scene. Explorations of boundaries, whether a rewilding abandonment or stark materialisation of them, were exhibited throughout the section. Here are some of New Wave’s top picks: https://lnkd.in/eUYmuyFw

'In Silence with Matthew Wong' is a one-of-a-kind in-gallery experience at the Van Gogh Museum. At the end of the Matthew Wong exhibition, you find yourself in one last room. It's dark and spacious with a blue-lit atmosphere. Within this room is just one painting. As you enter the space, you encounter a series of prompts and tips to prepare you for the silent experience: - Allow your eyes and thoughts to wander freely - Focus on a detail, a colour, the composition or the paint strokes - Look at the work from a different angle, or lie down instead of sitting. You might see something completely new. - Reflect on your feelings: what does the work evoke in you? This space serves two purposes. First, with minimal distractions, it allows you to concentrate fully on the single artwork, noticing all the details and nuances more deeply. Secondly, it provides a quiet, peaceful place for reflection on the exhibition's themes away from the busyness of the rest of the museum. It's unlike any other part of the museum. Go and see it if you can! Are there any other examples of galleries with just one painting? I know of 'Room to Breathe' at Manchester Art Gallery from Louise Thompson, with its minimal artwork and comfy sofas. Where else in the world can you do this? "Colors Unseen" new series by @caseybaugh Colors Unseen: The beauty of butterflies has been revered by ancient civilizations for thousands of years. Their colorful wings do not reflect lights as normal pigmented surfaces do. Instead, their microscopic scales, refract, and bend light, resulting in some of the most vibrant and iridescent colors ever seen in nature. Because of the position of its eyes, a butterfly will go it’s entire life, unable to see the beauty of its own wings. _____________ Baugh's art has evolved over time to become more narrative. Though still maintaining figures as his prime subject matter, he is telling more stories, and his series and exhibits are becoming more thematic. On a constant quest to push new boundaries, he is persistent in experimenting with his inspirations and artistic translations, pursuing more complicated compositions and achieving grander shows. Experience with electrical engineering as well as video and movie-making has attributed greatly in his use of props, set building, lighting, and translates to the overall harmony of his visual layouts. #CaseyBaugh #JMartManagement #Contemporary #painter #Contemporarypainter #art #museum #culture #painting #oilpainting #artsy #realism https://lnkd.in/gxHvEdnk
