This past fall, the itec group volunteered at the Brantford Food Bank and discovered that donations often decline in the summer, likely due to the absence of festive holidays and busy summer schedules. Today, we returned to give back again, donating both our time and food. We sorted items by type and expiration date, achieving in three hours what would have taken their team three weeks! A reminder: the need for donations extends beyond peak holiday seasons like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Consider donating your time to help pack orders or sort items at your local food bank. Volunteers are crucial in keeping these services running for those in need. High-demand items include: - Peanut Butter - Oatmeal - Canned Fruit/Vegetables - Infant Formula - Pet Food - Cleaning Products - Toilet Paper - Feminine Hygiene Products - Shampoo & Deodorant - Toothpaste & Toothbrush For more information on how to get involved, check out this link or contact your local Food Bank. https://lnkd.in/gXXB8if9 Let’s support our community all year long!

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! If you’ve seen our social posts before, you will know that we are currently tackling the homelessness crisis in the UK. We often get asked how you can contribute if a big investment isn’t an option as of this moment in time. Nationwide, if you can donate to a food bank, it will make a bigger difference than you know. When deciding what to donate, it's important to consider items that are nutritious, non-perishable, and in high demand. Here are some suggestions: * Canned Goods: Items such as canned vegetables, fruits, beans, soups, and meats (like tuna or chicken) are excellent choices as they have a long shelf life and provide essential nutrients. * Pasta and Rice: Staple foods like pasta, rice, and other grains are versatile, filling, and easy to store, making them ideal donations. * Cereal and Oatmeal: Breakfast items like cereal, oatmeal, and granola bars are essential for starting the day right * Baby Food and Formula: Donations of baby food, formula, and other infant essentials are greatly appreciated by families with young children * Hygiene Products: While not food items, toiletries such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and sanitary products are often in high demand and can be included in your donation to support overall well-being. Before donating, it's a good idea to check with your local food bank to see if they have specific needs or preferences. Additionally, consider donating funds directly to the food bank, as they can often stretch monetary donations further by purchasing items in bulk or acquiring perishable items like fresh fruits and vegetables. If you are looking at a bigger investment that supports housing associations and/or CICs to give vulnerable people a place to call home, get in touch with us and let’s discuss our strategy. #foodbank #costofliving #costoflivingcrisis #ukcrisis #crisis

Hey everyone! I'm on a mission to fight food waste and help out our community, and I need your help! You know how restaurants sometimes give you portions that are, well, a little too generous? Instead of letting that delicious food go to waste, why not turn it into a good deed? Here's the plan: Next time you grab takeout, ask for an extra container. (Maybe even bring one from home!) Then, when you're done eating, pack up those leftovers nice and neat. But where do they go? Here's the best part! Those leftovers can be a lifesaver for someone in need. We can donate them to local shelters, soup kitchens, or even just share them with a neighbor down the street. Every little bit helps, right? Think of it as acting locally, but with a global impact! So, who's with me? Let's turn leftover food into a movement! Who wants to join the fight against food waste and help out our community? Comment below and let's get this party started! P.S. Sharing tips or restaurants that are cool with leftover donations is totally encouraged! Spread the word and let's make this a thing! Participant restaurant are promoted globally.

Start the week off with an organized pantry, especially with lunches to be made every morning for the kiddos. 1. Sort out the expired food; discard 2. Sort out the food that's been sitting on the shelves forever - that no one likes; donate 3. Organize what's left by category 4. Store quick grab items for the kiddos at easy to reach locations and in open baskets to create independence and self-service - store less frequently used items or adult style food higher up. 5. Label those baskets and shelves for ease of storage and retrieval. #AnOrganizedLife #OrganizeYourLife #AndOrganizedKitchen #OrganizedPantry #KitchenOrganizing #PantryOrganizing #BostonOrganizer #BestBostonOrganizer #SudburyOrganizer #BestSudburyOrganizer #NewtonOrganizer #BestNewtonOrganizer #LexingtonOrganizer #BestLexingtonOrganizer

Everyone has a different tolerance for kitchen clutter. Whether you easily declutter or struggle to let go, chances are you have too many of these items: 🔘 Cookbooks you never read: Donate them or organize a cookbook swap with friends. 🔘 Old dish cloths: Retire them to the "rag" section, toss them, or donate to an animal shelter. 🔘 Food containers: Recycle mismatched pieces and repurpose stained ones for storage. 🔘 Takeout menus: Everything is online. Use them for messy projects and then toss them. 🔘 Tote bags: Stop accumulating them. Use them around the house or donate to shelters and food banks. Ready to declutter and organize your home? Facing the choice between essentials like milk or electricity, eggs or medications, and even poultry or housing shouldn't be a reality for anyone. Yet, for 1 in 3 of our neighbors facing food insecurity across Massachusetts, these are some of the tough decisions they have to make daily. Thank you to Esha Walia and Boston Globe Media for their recent article highlighting how grocery prices have surged 25% since 2019, forcing twice as many families to seek food assistance compared to pre-pandemic levels and making affording nutritious food more difficult than ever. That’s why GBFB exists. We are here to help and fuel the charitable food system that is responding to this chronic surge in food assistance need. With our purchasing power, we acquire and distribute healthy free food to our neighbors facing food insecurity through a robust network of 600 community partners. That means for every $1 you donate, 2 meals will be provided to a neighbor in need across the 190 cities and towns we serve. Together, we have the power to put healthy meals on our neighbors' tables and end hunger here. Check out The Boston Globe article mentioned to learn more: https://lnkd.in/dGYTWGFc

It's getting hotter, and for many who are living on the streets, survival is a constant struggle. Inside our walls, we try our best to make AHCH a small haven of relief and provide simple pleasures such as hot coffee, sugar and creamer, and small snacks like cup-o-noodles, protein bars, chips, and popcorn. On outreach, there is an acute need for bottles of water, nutrient-dense bars, and electrolyte drinks. This is why we need your help to provide the basic resources that make AHCH a warm and welcoming place for people to come to. A few notes: We do NOT accept any food items if they are: -Perishable -Expired -Unsealed -Used/Leftover We DO accept food items ONLY IF they are: -Shelf Stable -Non-Expired -Individually Wrapped for Easy Distribution -Sealed/New If you would like to make a monetary donation instead, you can do so onine at: https://bit.ly/4ehmgQ7
