UPDATE: Yet another step closer. As far as I understand (don't know about China), the information gather is shared between research institutions. Therefore: this isn't going to be a race to one world monopoly on Fusion, but rather freedom from energy dependence on other nations. Historically wars have been fought around resources, (using religion and other manipulations as tools, please don't quote me on this I may be wrong). What is the most valuable resource right now? Energy. I believe allowing every nation to be energy independent will be the next giant leap towards shedding our fur and climbing down from the branches of the metaphorical jungle we've been living in. Not to say this will solve all problem and create heaven on earth... but it's a step in the right direction. (Originally, I wrote, "It's a start", but realize how enormous of a lie that we be. Human lives are short compared to epochs, and though it may not seem like it; Humanity has been through much much worse. We have began making moves in the right direction for a long time (since when? I don't know.) We don't always do; and even when our intentions are good the outcomes are nothing like we invision (The road to hell is paved with good intentions? If really so, hell must be a hard place to get into with the constant construction just to keep traffic flowing). Call me a cautious optimist, but I believe we're going to make it. (To where? That's beyond this already overgrown snippet of information that it intended** to be) **intended... guess I should start getting prepared for being stuck in constant traffic. Happy slightly belated New Year Everybody!

The Open Nuclear Network is now part of PAX sapiens. Key Highlights: - Collaboration: ONN will join other peace and security programs at PAX, including Our Secure Future. - Enhanced Engagement: We aim to complement PAX's work on critical issues like China-United States relations. - Hybrid Model: PAX operates as a hybrid grantmaking and operating foundation, and ONN will be a vital part of its operational work. - Continued Efforts: We will continue to build our activities in foresight and forecasting, research and analysis, monitoring and assessment, and engagement and networks. - Fundraising: As an operational part of the foundation, external fundraising remains crucial to our growth and validation. - Future Grantmaking: PAX plans to open up grantmaking resources for the nuclear community, though specifics are still under review. The longer story: We will be joining other peace and security programmes of the foundation, including Our Secure Future, and the intention is to complement PAX's existing engagement work, such as its work on China-United States relations. PAX is a hybrid grantmaking and operating foundation. The ONN will form part of its operating work. As such, we will bring our existing and emerging efforts in foresight and forecasting, research and analysis, monitoring and assessment, and engagement and networks to the foundation. As with any operating part of a foundation, we're expected to continue to build our activities and growth through external fundraising. There's no getting away from that, as we validate our own worth in terms of how much the wider community, governments and other philanthropic organisations are willing to invest in us. However, the merger is also intended to open up resources for philanthropy. Here, PAX is expected to open up a mirrored effort in grantmaking for the nuclear community. How much we, as a grantmaking foundation, intend to invest in the nuclear community and how we intend to do so is still a matter of internal review. So we're most assuredly not accepting any applications yet. Those who attended the Oppenheimer screening in London last year would have gotten a preview of our founder's intent there. This is a great development for a field and a community that, over the past years, has experienced a virtual draught in investment from both foundations and governments. Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
It all has to do with political and scientific needs plus control, ITER plus EU still fails to give the UK security on research and funds use. Then there is the consideration that the UK has now entered the fusion race as an independent nation and as such expects to get a better return on its research and funds from Culham which is advancing faster than ITER and to a commercial end which ITER will never or has never aimed for as a pure research facility. It is the economics of the fusion industry even now that is better for the UK as well as the US and China that is the point. As it is said "quid pro quo" https://lnkd.in/gibvFgfF
Call me narrow minded or misinformed, but I struggle to see how pulling out of the largest fusion experiment in the world can be considered a genius move...

Career Coach for Corporate Professionals | Aligning your mindset & actions with your desired outcomes
'No' is just the end, isn't it? Period. End of sentence. We should really be careful when we issue that nuclear option of answers to ourselves or to others who are important to us. 'No' means... No exploration of ideas, no potential adventures, not even a fact-finding mission comes after a 'No.' A better response is, 'How?' ❓ How might that work? ❓ How would we navigate that path? ❓ How would the process need to look? On the game board of life, there is so much we don't know and so much to discover. Let's stop declaring an end, and instead entertain new beginnings. #forwardmovement #growth #problemsolving #innovation #newideas

What are systems? What are goals? And why do I care so much about this topic that I asked Syd Markle to do some #bikablo art for the cover piece? Here is my take: goals are a future state, a point to which you are navigating. Systems are the present, the right now, built of your daily habits or practices. Goals are what I want to achieve, and systems are how I will do it. At the outset, the eight (8) Actions seems commendable! They should help contribute to the much needed requirement of NEW Nuclear to be "Cost-competitive". REGARDING "Fees for permits, licenses, amendments, renewals, special projects, 10 CFR part 55 re-qualification and replacement examinations and tests, other required reviews, approvals, and inspections under §§ 170.21 and 170.31 will be calculated using the professional staff-hour RATE OF $300 PER HOUR" [Emphasis Added] OPINION While, the Cost associated with NRC Licensing Fees can and should be reduced (including relatively shorter overall Licensing Duration), a review of my Largest Privately held Power Plants DATABASE indicates the following as EVEN more of a related Concern/Issue/COST-DRIVER: - The Overall Impact of Changes in the NRC Regulations and Others had a "HIGH DOUBLE DIGIT % INCREASE IN THE CAPITAL COST OF PAST NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS IN THE U.S." [ Due to REdesign, QA/QC , Expensive Site Construction REwork & REtesting! ] #DATABASE(1970-2023)

#US has the brightest minds, top-notch science, the necessary capital and the inherent willingness to use #SMRs and #AdvancedReactors to recover the hegemony in #NuclearTechnology... But is not OK to take years or decades to successfully license and construct a #NuclearReactor... Interesting reading on some actions that could enhance the deployment of #AdvancedNuclearTechnology not only in the #UnitedStates, but also globally.

Proof that collaboration, combined with a 'not-giving up' and 'can-do-attitude' leads to results in the long run. Well done to all involved in the JET project, and looking forward to following (and maybe participating) in the follow-up project.
