Happy #WorldSeaTurtleDay! As the weather warms up and you head out to enjoy Southwest Florida's coastal waters this boating season, help us protect not just sea turtles, but all wildlife, this summer by: ⛵Following Coast Guard-approved safe boating guidelines, complying with slow speed zone signs and using vigilance to avoid striking sea turtles, manatees and dolphins by accident ⛵Wearing polarized sunglasses to see marine life in your path better ⛵Never feeding marine wildlife ⛵Stowing trash and line when under way. Marine debris that accidentally blows overboard or out of a vehicle can become ingested by or entangled around marine life ⛵Looking out for manatees and observing them from a distance ⛵Based on research, Hot Spots for boat-struck sea turtles are Longboat Pass, New Pass, Big Pass, Siesta Key, Venice Inlet, and offshore 2 miles north of New Pass to 2 miles south of Big Pass extending out one mile; limit travel time within these Hot Spots and travel at a minimum safe speed when in these areas For more information, on how to keep the beaches turtle friendly visit mote.org. ☀️ #MoteMarineLab #Summer #BoatSafety #LoveFl

Ready for a perfect weekend getaway? Just 4 hours from Los Angeles and 6 hours from San Diego is a great weekend trip to Morro Bay. Morro Rock: Geological Significance: Formed from an extinct volcano, Morro Rock is a towering landmark on California's coast. Iconic Landmark: Standing 576 feet tall, it's a unique sight at the entrance to Morro Bay. Fishing in Morro Bay: Abundant Marine Life: The bay offers diverse fishing opportunities, including halibut, rockfish, and salmon. Fishing Charters: Numerous charters cater to both beginners and seasoned anglers, offering trips and equipment. Morro Bay blends natural beauty with excellent fishing, making it popular for both locals and visitors alike. Sea otters are another fascinating marine mammal that can be spotted in the waters around Morro Bay. Here’s more about them: Behavior: They are known for their playful nature and can often be seen floating on their backs or diving underwater in search of food. Sea otters are also known to use tools, such as rocks, to crack open shellfish. Conservation: Sea otters are a protected species in California due to their historical decline from fur hunting. Efforts to conserve and restore their populations have been ongoing, and Morro Bay provides a sanctuary for these marine mammals. Viewing Opportunities: Visitors to Morro Bay may catch glimpses of sea otters from kayaks, boats, or along coastal trails. They are particularly active in the early morning and late afternoon when they are feeding. Ecological Importance: Sea otters play a crucial role in the health of coastal ecosystems by controlling populations of sea urchins, which in turn helps to preserve kelp forests and maintain biodiversity. Observing sea otters in Morro Bay offers a chance to witness their unique behaviors and learn about their vital role in coastal marine ecosystems. National Fishing and Boating Week is a great time to learn to fish, reconnect with your canoe and enjoy some exciting whitewater with friends and family. 🎣 🛶 Being in and around the water can enrich our lives in so many ways — relieving stress, improving our health and experiencing the outdoors. By practicing responsible fishing and boating, we can play a significant role in protecting fishing for future generations. 🛶 Carry out what you brought in and never leave plastic containers or packaging behind. Fishing lines are hazardous to birds and other wildlife, so pick up and recycle them. 🛶 To protect the water from invasive species, never move fish or plants from one body of water to another or release unused live bait into the water. 🛶 Clean boats, trailers and equipment – be sure to drain your boat and dry it in the sun for five days or wipe it with a towel before reuse. Find your next adventure on the water with us ➡️ https://www.blm.gov/visit. 📸Tangle Lakes, Bureau of Land Management - Alaska; Craig McCaa #NationalFishingAndBoatingWeek

Don’t go to Channel Islands National Park without knowing these six tips first - Santa Cruz Island Edition 1: Reserve campsites well in advance, spots can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. 2: Check to ensure you can get transportation to Santa Cruz Island for your campsite reservation, the islands are accessible by park concessionaire boats, which depart from Ventura and Oxnard harbors. 3: Weather can vary significantly between the mainland and the islands. Be prepared for cooler, windier, and foggier conditions. While it does not happen often, sometimes the concessionaire boats are unable to pick you up when camping and you’ll be stuck until they can. 4: Cell phone reception is limited or nonexistent on the islands, we found we had the best service on the Scorpion Anchorage 5: There are no trash disposal facilities on the islands, carry all trash back to the mainland. 6: Potable water is available at the Scorpion Ranch campground Let us know in the comments if you’d like a part 2 #ChannelIslandsNationalPark #Channelislands #California #VisitCalifornia #NationalParkService

From late May to July, sea turtles in Greece emerge from the sea at night to nest in the warm sand, carefully burying their precious eggs. After nesting, they return to the water, leaving distinctive tracks on the beach. If you notice signs of "nesting activity," here are some important steps you can take: 🐢 Please remove sun umbrellas, sunbeds, and other beach furniture that could harm the nests. 🐢 Remember to switch off or cover bright lights to avoid disorienting the turtles or hatchlings. 🐢 Avoid digging out nests or moving protective cages placed above them. 🐢 Refrain from lighting fires at night on sea turtle nesting beaches. 🐢 Please be mindful and avoid using vehicles on the beach or speeding with motor boats close to nesting areas. Lastly, it's crucial not to touch or assist hatchlings to the water. It's best to let them find their own way to the sea. If you find adult turtle tracks, nests, or hatchlings near your home or vacation spot this summer, please contact @archelon_greece - Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece at (+30) 6941 511 511 or rescue.archelon@gmail.com for guidance on how to help. Let's work together to protect these amazing creatures! _______ Want to know more about the Sea Turtle?
