Planting seeds for a more sustainable future – World Environment Day – June 5, 2024 Teaching our sons about sustainability in practical ways while having fun. Like planting our garden, and watching seeds grow into plants that (hopefully) produce fruit. Helping them use tools to turn something old into something new- in this case, some recycled lumber from our old deck to make a new garden box for our herbs. Happy Earth Day! At Hy-Vee, we are committed to improving the environment and the communities we live in. That’s why we focus on efforts that reduce our carbon footprint to help protect our planet: • Our three distribution centers are TRUE Zero Waste certified, which means that 99.02% of all waste from their facilities was diverted from landfills this past year. • Nearly 50% of the power used in Hy-Vee stores is generated from renewable sources. • Our stores have diverted 9.6 million pounds of food and organic waste from landfills over the past three years in partnership with the GreenRU Organic Waste Diversion Program. • We offer 100% responsibly sourced fresh and frozen seafood at all our stores. • We have planted more than 820,000 trees since 2011 through the Hy-Vee One Step program.Learn more about our sustainability efforts here: https://lnkd.in/g9xqayKc
