How do you design a station to seamlessly integrate into the public realm? Our design approach for Barangaroo Station prioritised customer and community considerations. Nestled within the Barangaroo headland park, the station seamlessly integrates into the public realm with minimal visual impact. Rather than imposing over-station structures, we opted for canopies and lift pods that frame the entrances. Additionally, tunnel ventilation services were harmoniously integrated with urban design and landscaping, eliminating the need for separate service buildings. Sustainability was also a key focus during the design process. Making the most of Barangaroo Station’s proximity to Sydney Harbour, we implemented a high-efficiency thermal plant that utilises sea water cooling. The chilled water system maintains critical systems and supports passenger comfort. By prioritising customer-centric design and sustainability early in the design process, we achieved a significant milestone.
