We are excited to announce the MDI Hospital New Year's Baby was born on Sunday, January 14th to parents Shannon and Alan Simons of Bar Harbor. Baby Amelia measured 21in long and 7lbs 5oz. Shannon is an employee of MDI Hospital, working as a Certified Medical Assistant at Cadillac Family Practice, so this birth is particularly exciting. The Simons Family added, “We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the phenomenal birthing experience we had under your care. The dedication and kindness of all the staff we encountered were truly exceptional. With Shannon being an employee of the hospital, this experience holds an extra special place in our hearts, knowing now firsthand the outstanding level of care and support provided to patients. Thank you for making this journey so memorable.” For over 20 years, MDI Hospital has the beloved tradition of gifting a basket to the first baby born in the New Year filled with gifts courtesy of our friends across MDI and the Downeast region we serve. Thank you to all the local businesses, organizations, groups, and individuals who participated in donating generous gifts and carefully selected items for this year’s basket. • A&B Naturals • Bar Harbor Bank & Trust • Carisa's Salon • Carroll Drug Store Inc. • Dead River Company • Fiore Olive Oils and Vinegars • First National Bank • Galyn's • Geddy's • Island Quilting Guild Members • Jesup Memorial Library • Jordan's Restaurant • Libra Foundation • Machias Savings Bank • Maine Prevention Store • MDI Hospital Auxiliary • MDI Hospital Nutrition Department • MDI Hospital OB Department • Paradis Ace Hardware • Spruce & Gussy • The Acadia Shops • The Kimball Shop • Window Panes • Tanya Hanke & Family • Zi Photography #barharbor #community #newyearsbaby #baby #OB #maine #barharbormaine #mdihospital #healthcare #mdi #mountdesertisland #downeast

🔥🔥 Hot Feet Alert! 🔥🔥 Have you ever thought to yourself, "Wow, I'd really love to see Carole do something absolutely bonkers!"? Well, you're in luck! For reasons that are mostly sane, I've decided to walk on HOT COALS! Yes, you read that right. Maybe I miss the warm feeling of summer on my toes, or maybe I just lost a bet (we'll never tell 😉). But I'm not just doing this for the thrill or the hilarious potential for a meme-worthy facial expression. I'm doing it to raise funds for Teesside Hospice ❤️ Why should you donate? For the sheer satisfaction of knowing you contributed to my fleeting moment of insanity (and bravery/ or stupidity depending on how you look at it!). Because it's for a fantastic cause! And hey, if I'm willing to roast my toesies, the least you can do is toss in a few quid, right? 😜 So Please Donate, share, and let’s fire up this fundraiser. 🔥 Ready to watch and wonder if my next step will be a sizzle or a sprint? Click the link below and let’s get roasting! https://lnkd.in/deGaV6sG P.S. Please remember, I'm a trained "professional" with a unique set of skills that include making questionable decisions for good causes. Don't try this at home. Seriously, stick to BBQs and fireplaces. #HotCoalChallenge #ToastyToesForCharity

Hello lovely LinkedIn friends, I tend to use LinkedIn for a mixture of professional and personal posts, partly because I don't have any other social media accounts any more, and partly because I find the LinkedIn community a really warm and supportive space. So I hope you don't mind me taking the opportunity to tell you about a personal challenge that Tom Ellery and I will be taking on, in just over a month's time. On June 29th, on one of the longest (and possibly hottest) days of the year, Tom and I will be racing against the sun via sea kayak, bike and walking boots. All in aid of a great cause: to raise funds for Action Medical Research, a charity funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies and children. When Tom suggested the challenge, I thought it sounded quite straightforward... how difficult could a "triathlon" be? But I soon discovered that the devil's in the detail! A 28 mile cycle ride over the hilly terrain of the Jurassic coast takes me way out of my current comfort zone, and I'm not even sure I can kayak 100m in the open seas, let alone two miles! Then a nine-mile hike on the end to top it all off. Needless to say, the training has started in earnest and we're working on getting our all-round fitness, and in my case, my terrible cycle-fitness, to the tip-top standards required. Having had friends go through the agony of a child being diagnosed with cancer, Tom and I have both seen first hand the devastating effect that disease has on families. Not only the horrors of the illness itself, but also the side-effects of treatment, the time spent away from school in hospital and constant appointments, the impact on the other children in the family, and the pressure it puts on the parents, not to mention their financial security. Through funding vital research, Action Medical Research will help other families to avoid going through this horrendous agony in future. Please do consider whether you can make a donation, however big or small, towards our efforts. Thank you in advance :-) https://lnkd.in/ed9fEWBr

Did you know that March of Dimes pioneered what we know today as grassroots fundraising? 🪙 They’ve been empowering people everywhere to play a role in advancing healthcare since they led the eradication of polio in the 30s and 40s with a call for extra dimes from radio listeners across the country 📻 More than 80 years later, they are still getting thousands of people involved in the mission - now through their March for Babies events around the country for healthier moms and babies 👩🏼🍼 Their latest step to increase accessibility of donating is adding DAFpay to all of their peer to peer fundraising forms for the event ✅ In addition to finding brand new donors that prefer giving with their DAF, they’re also regularly seeing existing donors that historically gave a $100 now making gifts over $2,000 through DAFpay 🥳 As Karyn DeMartini, MBA, VP of Major, Principal & Planned Giving, says “It’s just a fact that donors are increasingly electing to use DAFs—why would we not make that as easy as possible to use a DAF to support us?” 💡 I loved getting to learn more of Karyn’s personal connection to the mission, the exciting results with DAFpay and March of Dimes latest initiatives for healthier moms and babies everywhere 🤗 Writing our cause of the month spotlight articles is a highlight for me every month 💜 If there’s an organization you think we should spotlight in the future that’s innovating with their impact and their DAF fundraising, please let me know! 🙌🏼 #nonprofit #fundraising #philanthropy

ANN AND BUDDY’S STORY: Meet Ann, who, amidst battling epilepsy and relying on a disability pension, found solace in the companionship of her beloved dogs after the loss of her husband. Ovarian cancer at 23 prevented her from having children, and Ann’s dogs became her emotional support and family. Recently, Buddy (pictured right), one of Ann’s dogs, faced a medical crisis with a developing mouth mass, necessitating the removal of 10 teeth. Struggling with the weight of financial strain, Ann found herself unable to handle the costs of hospitalisation, surgery, and pathology testing alone. Pet Medical Crisis stepped in and agreed to cover the costs of Buddy’s surgery, and Gribbles waived the fee for testing Buddy’s mass, greatly reducing the stress for Ann. ABOUT PET MEDICAL CRISIS: A lifeline for pensioners in crisis. A lifesaver for pets at risk. Established in 2010, this charity is on a mission to prevent vulnerable families from losing their beloved pets, their homes, and stability in times of crisis when critical vet care is needed. Visit https://lnkd.in/d-Ai9YJg to learn how your clinic can participate. Join us in celebrating stories like Ann and Buddy’s, where collaboration and compassion make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing adversity. #gribblesveterinarypathology #charity #compassion

Dying Matters Awareness Week A legacy of care and compassion: why Vee Owers champions leaving gifts in will to ellenor. “There’s a misconception that leaving a legacy gift is complicated and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be: there are simple and cost effective ways of making and updating a Will. I’d love us to get to a place where anybody who is a part of ellenor can feel like legacy giving is something they could at least think about doing.” At ellenor, that includes the exciting development of its Wellbeing Wing – extended facilities which will include new counselling rooms, an improved play room, quiet spaces for patients and their families, and a large multipurpose space for a range of activities. This will enable ellenor to meet the needs of more patients, and their loved ones, facing life-limiting illnesses – and meet those needs to an even higher level of personalised, holistic hospice care. “We are immensely grateful for all of the legacies we receive here at ellenor. The generosity of those kind supporters who choose to leave a gift in their Will directly benefits our local community.” If you’d like to know more about how legacies make a difference to ellenor’s vital work or about how you could leave a gift in your Will to ellenor, do get in touch with the Supporter Care team today for more information on T: 01322 626509 or E: fundraising@ellenor.org #ellenor #ellenorcharity #hospice #charityhospice #charitychallenge #hospicecare #supportyourlocalhospice #communitysupport #talkingchangeslives #legacy #will #dyingmattersawarenessweek #dyingmatters

President of Vitamin Angels India | Chair of Executive Group Catalyst2030 India | Building Nutrition Equity in India |
#VitaminA deficiency is a well-recognised public health problem. Controlling vitamin A deficiency increases chances of survival, reduces severity of childhood illnesses and blindness, and hence is absolutely critical intervention to reduce morbidities and mortalities. On the other hand, timely #Deworming in early childhood ensures prevention of infections and better absorption of nutrition. If we could get these two right, we would have addressed a significant issue of childhood under-nutrition. If not addressed, it will continue to put pressure on our #healthsystems, which are particularly weak in hard-to-reach areas in India. At Vitamin Angels India we are building lasting partnerships, friendships and teams to ensure that children under 5, no matter where they are, receive critical doses of vitamin A. With over 400 brilliant partners including governments, hospitals, schools and social purpose organisations like Every Infant Matters, who have strong knowledge and reach to the hard-to-reach populations, we believe together we are building an essential mesh of support in the critical growth years of a child. Thanks Dr. Shelly Batra for this kind post, and to Every Infant Matters and Govt of Mizoram for your reach and timely help! Do reach out if you would like to join, support or partner in our mission! #Maternal and #Child #nutrition | #NutritionEquity India CSR Network | CSRBOX | AVPN | NUTRIFY TODAY
CEO at Every Infant Matters; TEDx Speaker, Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre , Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur selected by the World Economic Forum,

Next time you select those fire frames, keep this in mind: #Anemia can affect vision by reducing oxygen to the eyes, leading to blurry vision and, in severe cases, retinal hemorrhages that cause spots or shadows. While style matters, don’t overlook the importance of checking for anemia—it can help protect your vision too. We invite #optical professional providers to join us in raising #community awareness. We are not seeking donations—instead, we believe funds are better spent on creating impactful educational materials, fostering life-saving innovations, and supporting essential supplements that can change lives. Together, we can develop resources that empower communities, prevent suffering, and promote healthier futures. So you’ve been considering who to make your donation to this Tax Season? Well, I’m pitching Supertee - A medical garment disguised as fun costumes for sick kids to you and here’s a list of reasons why- ❤️ Fun and comfortable medical garments can make children feel more at ease during their hospital stay or medical treatments, reducing anxiety and stress associated with wearing traditional medical gowns or plain T-shirt. 🚀Wearing costumes that children enjoy can boost their spirits and improve their emotional well-being, contributing to a more positive outlook and better overall health outcomes. 🦹🏼 Costumes can help children feel more like themselves and less like patients, providing a sense of normalcy and empowerment during a difficult time in their lives.(I’ve seen it!) 🧑⚕️Children who are more comfortable and happy are likely to be more cooperative during medical procedures, making it easier for healthcare providers to deliver effective care. (Just ask the nurses!) 😁Fun costumes serve as a positive distraction from pain and discomfort, helping children focus on something enjoyable rather than their medical condition or treatment. 🤱Parents that see their child in a fun costume can also find their spirits lifted, helping them cope better with the stress and emotional toll of having a child in medical care. ⭐️Costumes encourage imaginative play and creativity, which are important aspects of child development and can provide a sense of joy and normalcy in the hospital environment. For more on this please connect with our Ambassador Dr Stephanie M. Carlson. 🫱🫲Donating to our cause helps build a community of support for sick children. We can show our parents in our communities that they are not alone and that others care about their comfort and happiness. 💪Engaging in play and wearing costumes can have therapeutic benefits, including reducing fear, enhancing mood, and even potentially speeding up recovery. And lastly! 👀 Donors can see the direct impact of their contributions through the visible joy and comfort these garments bring to children, making it a rewarding and fulfilling way to give back. We are on a mission to help 16,000 sick children in hospital like Ash this year recieve a free Supertee care pack. We’ve passed halfway! Can you be our hero and help carry us all across the finish line?
