Today, we observe Black Balloon Day, a solemn occasion dedicated to remembering and paying tribute to the lives lost to overdose. At Recovery Friendly Workplace, we unite in solidarity with those impacted by substance use disorder, aiming to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges associated with it. Each black balloon serves as a poignant symbol of a life extinguished prematurely—an emblem of the profound toll overdoses take on individuals, families, and communities. In this moment of reflection, we contemplate the lives cut short, the unrealized dreams, and the potential left untapped. Today, our collective focus is on mutual support, offering hope, and shining as beacons of light for those currently grappling with addiction. While addiction is a complex disease, recovery is a viable path. We remain steadfast in delivering compassionate care, evidence-based treatment, and unwavering support to individuals seeking healing and a journey towards a brighter future. #Recovery #Overdose #WorkplaceSafety #RhodeIsland

Did you know that new research shows that younger women aged 18‐24 years are the most at‐risk subgroup of women for #gambling related harm, and have the highest rates of moderate risk and #problemgambling as compared to other age groups? Relative to middle‐aged (35‐54 years) and older women (55 years and over), cross‐sectional analyses suggest that younger women (16‐34 years) #gamble more frequently, are more likely to experience severe levels of #gamblingaddiction, gamble on multiple products, and have a lower perception of harms associated with some forms of gambling. While researchers have demonstrated that young men are increasingly engaged in #onlinegambling, they have also suggested that younger women's engagement with gambling is changing over time. For example, Thomas and colleagues identified that online forms of gambling, such as #sportsbetting, may appeal to and influence younger women's gambling behaviours, while increases in the socio‐cultural acceptance of gambling may contribute to younger women's reduced perceptions of risks associated with gambling. https://lnkd.in/gs9PNq9e

SAMHSA defines The Four Major Dimensions of Recovery as: 1. Health - Overcoming or managing one’s disease(s) or symptoms - for example, abstaining from use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medication if one has an addiction problem- and for everyone in recovery making informed, healthy choices that support physical and emotional well-being 2. Home - Having a stable and safe place to live 3. Purpose - Conducting meaningful daily activities, such as a job, school volunteerism, family caretaking, or creative endeavors, and the independence, income, and resources to participate in society 4. Community - Having relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope Did you know that you can find all of this and more at a Certified Recovery Home such as Amanda's House? Please read this article and form your own opinions on harm reduction and the push back on allowing MAT into sober living. I think it is important to be properly educated on the detrimental effect co-occurring disorders can have on someone's recovery. Medications are often what helps someone stay sober. Everyone has a choice in how they work their program of recovery. Sober living has been freely run since its begining and oversight is needed to keep these spaces safe. The legislation is asking to ALLOW certain medications and MAT. We need to consider this as helpful and not harmful. https://lnkd.in/giywiUVV

This is WHY we do what we do everyday! Helping veterans is our passion and purpose. “From the very first day at Desert Winds Recovery I was greeted with love and kindness. The facility creates an open, honest and respectful relationship whereby clients feel safe enough to disclose their feelings about themselves and their experiences without judgement. Everyone who works there wants to see you get heathy and thrive. Through the use of both Eastern and Western medicine, Desert Winds approaches diagnosing and treating in a partly holistic manner. This includes multiple factors that embrace the mind, body, and spirit.” -M. It’s all about “The Steps”. I remember back when many of us bought our first Fitbit or other sports watches. Everyone began talking about fitness steps. Goals were set for daily, weekly, monthly, lifetime fitness steps. This remains “a thing” and is a part of I-phone apps, etc. Everyone knows this isn’t a short term fitness project. Please - if you need an addiction recovery program make the commitment! Take the first step to end that downward steps you are living. Commit to the long term. Make the 30-30-30 addiction recovery program a fitness recovery goal where “you get the right steps at the right time.” Immerse yourself fully, work it, live it, share it. You can change your life. You will get the support, the education all the way!
A lot can happen in 30 days – but 30 days just isn’t long enough to change someone’s habits and build the foundation for sustainable new ones. 90 days is. That’s why residential addiction treatment at Sunflower Recovery is a minimum of 90 days. It’s that simple. Find out what goes on in our treatment programs and how we can help your loved one: https://lnkd.in/gSg4AmPJ
