lt was a honour to host a workshop at the European Conference of Oncology Pharmacy ,ECOP 6, which was held in Portugal from 2 to 4 October 2024. lt was a great learning experience and a pleasure to work with two great minds,Prof. Nabil Borsali from Algeria🇩🇿 and Dr. Trai Tharpanich from Thailand 🇹🇭 . The title of the workshop was : "Herbal medicines and cancer:patients' behavior:Pharmacological and psychological issues." Main takeaway from this workshop was that cancer patients all over the world 🌎 use herbal medicines and other complimentary alternative medicines.This is the reality we are faced with. As we provide patient centred cancer care,it is the duty of the pharmacist to discuss this critical issue with patients,provide information on possible drug to drug interactions to our patients and the multidisciplinary team and advise. #ECOP 6 #ESOPGlobal #CloseTheCareGap #Pharmacistscare

We are thrilled to announce that ARENSIA’s clinic in Ukraine has successfully dosed the very first patient in an advanced Phase 1 study for Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis (NCFB)! This milestone represents a significant step forward in the development of new treatments for this complex condition. Part 1 of the trial, which aims to enroll 6 patients, requires highly specialized procedures, including 2-week inpatient stays, intricate sputum collection and processing, intensive lung function testing up to 9 times daily, and continuous pharmacokinetic (PK) sampling. Given our Ukrainian team’s extensive expertise in respiratory research, the sponsor has entrusted ARENSIA’s Kyiv clinic with full responsibility for this phase. Enrollment is anticipated to be complete by the end of this year. In Part 2, 48 NCFB patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) or other Potentially Pathogenic Microorganisms (PPMs) will participate. This phase involves a 7-day hospitalization with intensive PK sampling, spirometry, SpMet measurements, sputum collections, and 5 follow-up visits over a 4-week period. ARENSIA Kyiv will continue to enroll patients for Part 2, joined by our clinics in Romania and Bulgaria, collectively contributing 20 patients to the study. Ukraine’s streamlined regulatory process, with approvals granted in as few as 35 days by both the local Ethics Committee and Health Authority, has been a key advantage. ARENSIA Ukraine handled the regulatory submissions, ensuring a swift and efficient approval process. I am thrilled to share the First Multicenter Egyptian Study Evaluating the Role of Vonoprazan in the Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in Egypt. In collaboration with 12 Egyptian Universities and The National Liver Institute, Inspire Pharma Egypt funded the largest Egyptian study (N=1184 patients) discussing the role of vonoprazan (#VONASPIRE) on Egyptian Patients. The first-line eradication rate was 91% in vonoprazan triple therapy versus 74.6% in PPI triple therapy (P < 0.001). The second-line eradication rate was 89.7% in vonoprazan quadrable therapy versus 78.3% in PPI quadrable therapy (P < 0.001). Both first- and second-line therapies were well tolerated with no remarkable adverse events or safety outcomes. It was a great journey that started with developing the protocol, site selection, patient assignments, results analysis, and finally with international publication. Sanofi will present new data from its hemophilia portfolio at the 32nd Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), taking place June 22-26, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. Notable presentations on ALTUVIIIO [Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant), Fc-VWF-XTEN Fusion Protein] include long-term interim phase 3 data on the efficacy and safety of the treatment in adults and children with severe hemophilia A. Abstracts on fitusiran include information on surgical experience as well as long-term safety data from the ATLAS phase 3 clinical development program in adults and adolescents with hemophilia A or B, regardless of inhibitor status. I’m pleased to share that our article, “A Case of Mesalamine Potentiating Hypoprothrombinemic Effect of Vitamin K Antagonist (VKA) Therapy Resulting in Life-Threatening Bleeding” has been published in the Journal of Postgraduate Medicine. This work, co-authored with Dr. Raghuveer S. Prabhu, Consultant Hematologist and Dr. Rahmathullah SN, Clinical Pharmacist, highlights possible drug–drug interactions between mesalamine and vitamin K antagonists, which went unrecognized leading to life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding. The Vitamin K dependent clotting factors were markedly reduced in this patient and the assays were performed in the Hemostasis Division of IQRAA International Hospital & Research Centre International Hospital and Research Centre. Thrilled to announce that our study on the impact of concomitant use of combined P-glycoprotein and moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors on bleeding risk in patients treated with Rivaroxaban or Apixaban has been accepted for presentation at the SEHA International Clinical Pharmacy Conference. This comprehensive real-world analysis, conducted at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, underscores a notable increase in bleeding risks—both major and minor—when these anticoagulants are co-administered with P-glycoprotein and moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors. Our research highlights the pressing need for heightened awareness among healthcare professionals about these drug interactions, particularly in patients at higher risk of adverse events.
