Each day, we'll share highlights of our sustainability efforts, and you'll have the chance to test your knowledge in a daily quiz. 📅 Day 1: eMobility – Ambitious Goals with Electric Vehicles 🚗 SWISS aims for a CO2-neutral ground fleet by 2030. Since March 2024, electric #Mercedes EQVs have been serving HON and First Class guests in Zurich, and by July, #BMW i7s were added for Premium Service in both Zurich and Geneva. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐅𝐀𝐓 2024 Just returned from an inspiring trip to IFAT 2024, the world's leading trade fair for environmental technologies. It was a fantastic homecoming, reconnecting with old colleagues and friends from the industry, especially those from my previous employer, Urbaser. Two years ago, I took a bold step by setting up Urbaser's first booth at IFAT, and 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴 brought back wonderful memories. It was a walk down memory lane, reminiscing about our early visits to IFAT, which 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘯 20 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘭𝘧𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘰 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰. He graciously introduced me to the world of waste management and imparted his invaluable knowledge – a debt I'll always owe. This year's IFAT was staggering – the sheer number of attendees and the expanded waste management pavilions reflecting the growing importance of this sector. 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦. Over the past two decades, the industry has embraced technological innovations, sustainability practices, and operational efficiencies. My exploration of IFAT unveiled a plethora of groundbreaking advancements, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). From smart containerization to intelligent material recognition systems, AI is revolutionizing the industry, optimizing efficiency and enhancing sustainability. Furthermore, significant transformations are underway in waste-to-energy technologies, with the market consolidating around a few key players. IFAT 2024 proved to be an exceptional experience. It brimmed with opportunities to learn, connect, and be inspired by the groundbreaking work in waste management.
