I can’t stress how important number 1 is!!! Look, I get paid to put the best team out there with the least amount of risk. You just might be the best candidate but in 3 months you find you hate the market you’re willing to relocate to…or your spouse hates it. Then, the role becomes open again and I’ve lost all the time and effort I invested into your development. We're hiring! Experienced cyber security recruiter wanted... We're growing! Another internal agency hire. This is an out & out 360 full desk role. Exceptional abilities required when it comes to winning & delivering on assignments. The standards here are extremely high. This role will involve working side by side with myself, helping to delivery on all our existing retained assignments, and continuing to win more quality business... Quality of earnings is huge for us, we do not say yes to every client organization we have the opportunity to partner with as this is actually counterproductive within the agency recruitment world. I'm still on the tools everyday 'boxing clever' in a rocky market so I know there's boatloads of 'wins' out there & mutually beneficial recruiting partnerships. Mindset matters, seeing is believing! More about our cyber security recruiter opportunity: - We are just looking to take on 1 high calibre cyber security head-hunter. Most of us (not all) have huge personalities so the thought of managing anymore than one fellow hh'er scares the hell out of me! - You'll have excellent search support. When we win a search you'll have access to our mega marketing resourcers that tap into my network (& yours) so you'll have high quality coverage for our clients fast. The systems & processes we've built here do elevate recruiter performance, I'm really feeling the full effects of this personally each week. - You must be able to sell retainers to clients. If you've never done this I'm happy to teach you but you've got to be bought in (that's not meant to sound patronizing). We honestly don't care if a client puts a 15 person project in front of us, the model is retained! Our time is too valuable, so is yours, & our service is too good/intense to work in any other way. Final thoughts: There's sometimes preconceptions about what a superstar recruiter is like. The notion that this is all about 'doing a quick deal', cold calling everyone, or screaming from the rooftops about how much money you're making is kinda old-skool and isn't how we 'get down' over here. I find that world a little cringe, not having a 'pop' at anyone within the recruitment sector that's just my views, we're all different 😍 How do we view a VERY mega cyber security recruiter internally: ✔️- Being nice, authentic, & really caring! ✔️- 'Vibing' with your network & the community consistently ✔️- Delivering & keeping your promises. ✔️- Doing stuff for free to help the community and expecting nothing back in return. ✔️- Helping a candidate out with some career advice when there's nothing in it for you bar the fact that she might be a hiring manager in 10 years time! ✔️- This isn't a 'get rich quick' scheme, it takes years of doing the right thing by people and having a long term mindset. Hiring tips from a random cyber guy (after reviewing over 100 applications and messages about the role I'm hiring for): 1. Local applicants will take precedence over ones willing to relocate (unless it's remote at which point you are competing with hundreds of others.) 2. Have a resume that fits the job description as best as possible (3 well-crafted applications will yield better results than 100 generic ones.) 3. Don't undersell or oversell yourself on your resume (this takes some skill.) 4. Be honest during the interview. It is ok to say, "I don't have experience doing that particular thing, but I am familiar with how it works and could pick it up quickly." 5. Read the actual job description and identify what you like and don't like about the job. Ask questions relating to those if you talk to the company. 6. Don't send your resume to someone directly unless they request it - this is a security risk and in my industry is fairly insulting. Upload the resume to the tool or system. 7. If you are reaching out to someone directly (bypassing the application process) make sure it doesn't come across as a copy/paste message. If you can't take the time to customize a message by using my company name and some thoughts about the role itself, don't expect me to take the time to review your application. [Added Item 8] 8. Keep track of what companies you apply for. It's embarrassing how many people applied for this role on LinkedIn, got a response, then applied for the role on Indeed or some other tool within a few hours of getting a response.

What is considered entry-level Cybersecurity/IT positions nowadays? Connections please assist or help because this is frustrating and annoying. Any leads will be helpful but I figured the job descriptions are not helping at all even tailoring the resumes. Hell even remote jobs are IMPOSSIBLE though it's “easy” to apply.

The rapidly growing software company KnowBe4 was looking for an engineer and posted the job in the usual places. One promising candidate sent a resume. The hiring manager interviewed them, performed a background check, verified references, and subsequently hired the candidate. Standard stuff, right? Except this candidate was a fraud. The “remote worker” was sent a computer, which immediately, upon receipt, began to download malware. The worker turned out to be a rogue scammer emulating a US citizen. Because of that stolen identity, they passed all the checkpoints. Yikes! With remote work becoming more and more common, and companies scrambling to fill critical positions such as software engineer, the risk of hiring a scammer is higher than ever. As a recruiter at Gables Search Group, I obviously discourage clients from hiring this way based on my own selfish reasons, but even from an objective point of view, hiring remotely is risky. When you work with a recruiter, we do the vetting for you and tend to work within our networks of candidates, so there’s far less risk involved in your hiring.

Utilize government-issued ID checks and consider third-party verification services. - 𝐁𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐅𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Train yourself (and your team) to spot red flags in emails and documents. Look for inconsistencies, unprofessional language, and suspicious attachments. - 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬: Only use company-approved communication platforms with strong encryption features. Avoid free public options. - 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫: Don't skip background checks!
