My colleague Tom de Nooij just came back from a five-day training program in Dubai, organised by our partner NAFFCO. The sessions focused on two key NFPA standards: NFPA 20 (Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection) and NFPA 25 (Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems).
The training brought together fire safety experts, consultants, insurers, and civil defence representatives from across the region, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The engagement and interaction from the participant were amazing; everybody asked detailed questions and shared positive feedback about the program’s content and approach.
“For Riskonet Academy, these sessions are an excellent opportunity to both share and acquire knowledge,” says Tom. “For example, we gain a deeper understanding on how fire safety is managed in Dubai’s high-rise buildings. This knowledge isn’t just useful in the Middle East; it gives us a broader perspective on fire safety standards worldwide”.
During the courses, Tom has the chance to explore local regulations and identify both the similarities and differences with Dutch legislation. “This helps us build a broader global knowledge base and better understand where local laws overlap, but also where they differ,” he explains. These insights are invaluable and are integrated into Tom’s daily practice.
Our collaboration with NAFFCO plays a big role in the success of these training sessions. Together, we’re helping to spread fire safety knowledge and improve practices worldwide. It’s always inspiring to see the connections and shared insights that come out of these programs, and we look forward to continuing this partnership.
