🏡 Wiltshire Council resolve to submit Plan to avoid draft NPPF housing requirements... 🏗 Following in the footsteps of authorities like St Albans, Wiltshire Council have resolved to submit their plan before the end of 2024 based upon a housing requirement of 1,911 dwellings per year, rather than addressing the requirements of the draft NPPF (2024) which would see the authority needing to plan for some 3,476 dwellings per year.  #planning #building #newhomes #development

‘Life-critical’ cladding issues in almost 2k social housing blocks Nearly 2,000 social housing blocks in England have “life-critical” problems with their external cladding, according to government figures. The data shows that 1,911 blocks above 11 metres in height have fire safety defects linked to their external walls. The scale of building safety problems across the country’s housing blocks has been highlighted, following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017. Nearly 3,972 private and social housing buildings above 11 metres have been found to have unsafe cladding. Experts warn that it could take two decades to fix all the buildings. Providers of social housing estimate that 87% of identified buildings will be remedied by September 2028. Remediation work has been completed on just 9% of social housing buildings with unsafe cladding, with work commenced on a further 28%. Work has not yet started on a third of buildings, while there is no plan in place for 29%. #construction #litigation
