On the 18th March, Mulalley got to support two events for our client Hackney Council. The first was a Networking Breakfast organised by the London Borough of Hackney's 14-19 Team, aimed at fostering connections between local employers and schools. The initiative was hosted at the Tomlinson Centre, with the informal gathering providing an excellent opportunity for employers and schools to connect face-to-face, with the hope of developing meaningful partnerships that can offer valuable opportunities for Hackney students. The social value team spoke to over 20 local providers, discussing ways that Mulalley can provider employer support to their students. It was then off to the DWP at Hackney Central where they are currently running a major construction campaign to promote opportunities in the sector, Mulalley had been invited to a dedicated Construction Sector Group Session alongside some construction training providers to provide insight into the industry, its current landscape, and the opportunities available. It was a busy room, with 45 participants keen to learn more about the sector. Our Head Of Social Value spoke to job seekers for 15 minutes and shared his perspective on the industry and future opportunities. Mulalley is currently working on behalf of Hackney Council on Kings Crescent Estate, Marian Court and are currently on site on the Nightingale Estate, a design and build scheme comprising of a total of 72 homes for social rent located in a single five storey block. As well as the new homes and community centre, the regeneration will include the central Public Realm space, with improvements to the paving, lighting, play space and soft landscaping features. Yesterday Mulalley was very proud to be headline sponsor of the first WISH (Women In Social Housing) South East event of 2025. The event was focused on the skills shortages in the construction industry which has a knock on effect to housing, and explored ways to tackle it. It was a thought provoking session that certainly got people engaged and passionate, with many in the room highlighting frustrations with the current routes into construction and the way construction is perceived by young people. The fantastic panel included Danielle Buckley, Leah Ottaway, Darryl Stewart, Carlene Goodearl and was expertly chaired by Megan Farmer. When the panel was each asked to give one bit of advice to the attendees to help tackle the issues, they said: BE ADVOCATES FOR CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGE PEOPLES PRECONCEPTIONS SUPPORT SME SUPPLYCHAIN MAKE IT ASPIRATIONAL CHANGE THE NARRATIVE Definitely food for thought, collaboration across the industry is going to be key to tackling what is a huge issue for the sector. A big thank you to WISH (Women In Social Housing) South East for another fantastic event. Julian Sanz 🌈 Amber Perrier Gemma Peglar
