Airmen deserve the right to the freedoms they fight for. This senseless murder could have been avoided. 📢 A mother is grieving the unimaginable loss of her son, Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, who was tragically murdered in his own home by those sworn to protect him. This heartbreaking incident hits close to home, especially on Mother's Day weekend. ✅ It is essential to address the many wrongs that occurred in this case and reflect on some key thoughts: 1️⃣ It is deeply disturbing that an American Airman was murdered in his own home by those who were supposed to ensure his safety. The second amendment protects this Airman and after viewing the bodycam, his firearm was pointed downward with no resistance. The officer reacted in fear instead of responding. 2️⃣ It is important for everyone, especially white individuals, to understand that calling the police on a Black person, even for assistance, can have fatal consequences. 3️⃣ "Karen's" or individuals who make biased or discriminatory calls should be held partially responsible for any harm caused. Perhaps we should consider involving multiple citizens in qualifying a "welfare check." 4️⃣ Police officers must receive proper support for PTSD, Trauma counseling and undergo bias training. Experiencing regular violent situations can have significant physical and psychological effects that need professional attention. 5️⃣ Officers should be trained in effective de-escalation techniques that are equitable and applicable to all situations. 6️⃣ The lack of accountability for law enforcement officers involved in cases concerning Black individuals is unacceptable. We need systemic changes in law enforcement training and accountability to address this issue. We must demand better accountability and systemic change. Airman Fortson deserves justice, and his grieving mother deserves answers. As a mother of a Black and Hispanic Army Warrant Officer around the same age, this incident deeply concerns me. 📰 Read more about this tragic incident: [Link to the news article](https://lnkd.in/g-vWQ5hP) #JusticeForAirmanFortson #SystemicChange #Accountability

Perhaps the most important clip you'll see today. What you're looking at are Americans hiking to bypass FEMA and get to others in need. It does NOT get more American than this. This gets me choked up. REPOST and let's honor these heroes and the victims. #thinblueline #lawenforcement

#WeRemember. The day our city was changed forever. Theresa is a remarkable example of resiliency, just like our city has been. If you get a chance, read her #SurvivorStory in the link below.
29 years ago, our community was forever changed. #WeRemember those who were killed on April 19, 1995, and pay tribute to the brave and selfless first responders who confronted danger head-on. We are honored to have Theresa Howell, a MACU staff member and Oklahoma City bombing survivor, share her remarkable story. Theresa believes good things come with tragedy — her faith only grew stronger after that fateful day: "I always look for the light in any dark situation because, with the grace of God, there is always light and His blessings." 🙏 Click here to read Theresa's full story: https://bit.ly/3Uojp0b
