This November marks 6 years since I moved my young family from Cincinnati to London. As our global HR team takes strides in eliminating barriers to mobility and fostering a culture of career movement within the organization, I cannot help but reflect on my experience and how immensely grateful I am to be part of an organization that actively supports and encourages career mobility, whether it's spanning oceans, transitioning between divisions and departments, or even exploring opportunities within the broader Munich Re Group.   While my international move was my biggest and most challenging for reasons you can imagine, I am humbled and reminded that some of my biggest learnings came from my earliest experiences in our Claims Department at our specialty primary insurer, American Modern. There, we contributed to helping individuals rebuild their lives—homes, cars, businesses and more—a commitment we referred to as “keeping the promise.” It's the essence of why we dedicate ourselves to this industry: to engage with everything we have and are, to help humankind act braver and better.   As career mobility comes more into focus, I can only encourage people to embrace the opportunity to unlock their potential, pushing the boundaries of one's comfort and area of expertise. I've found that the experiences outside my comfort zone have been the most transformative, shaping not only my professional trajectory but also my personal growth.   Special thanks to the exceptional leaders who served as advocates (you know who you are 😊), actively guiding me toward opportunities. Your support has been invaluable. What advice would you give your 20-year-old-self? 2002, I came to Frankfurt as a 20-year-old, to start my first job at T-Systems International. Last week, I went to the top of the Helaba MainTower in Frankfurt - for the first time. Up there, on top of the Main Tower with a view over Frankfurt, I saw myself and the different moments and milestones in my twenties. Knowing what I know now - I realised how important they were and how they shaped me and helped me grow . 📍I saw the streets I drove or walked to get from A to B. Lyoner Straße, Hahnstr, Mainzer Landstr, Ginnheimer Spargel, Frankfurt University and many more. Incl. three accidents on my way to work. 📍I saw the buildings where I used many stairs and elevators to go up and down the different floors for meetings and projects. 📍I remembered the people that I met over the years and especially those who were kind and supportive. Long story short, I spent 20 minutes on top of the Main Tower at sunset (with no rain, yay) and noticed how important these moments of gratitude are and that I should take more time for it. These are some of the things I would tell my younger 20-year-old self: ❓Ask a lot of questions and try as many things as possible. 🚀Don’t take the easy route - be OK to fail and fail fast. 🤝Collaborate, co-create and co-work as much as possible. Yesterday I visited the Zukunft Personal in Cologne. The biggest exhibition in Europe when it comes to People & Culture. The motto of this year was “Es lebe der Mensch” Main topics & future trends I saw 👇🏻 🔥 People centric organizations 🔥 Digitalization / HR Tech 🔥 Artificial Intelligence 🔥 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion 🔥 Well-being & mental health One day is too short to explore everything but I listened to a couple of great keynotes, saw creative stands, had good talks, saw innovative HR (tech) tools & solutions. And my personal highlight was the keynote of Fränzi Kühne. She currently leads the digital transformation at edding as CDO and she does so as a “tandem” together with a colleague, means they both work part-time and share their role and that’s unique in German’s board rooms up until now. Why job sharing on C-level is a great idea 👇🏻 😍 you have two “brains” on the same position instead of one 😍 these two can challenge their ideas & strategies and as Fränzi Kühne said during her keynote: “ideas that went through 2 heads will always be better than ideas from one single person” 😍 if you go for different knowledge & personalities they will brilliantly complement each other 😍 the role is never absent since the 2 job holders make sure that they are not on vacation at the same time And these are only a couple of advantages. And of course this setting comes with challenges as well but if you really want to make it work, you will find solutions 💡 Let’s hope that this is only the beginning and that loads of companies will follow & will come up with creative & smart solutions at all levels of the organization and that job sharing at C-level will be just normal in the future. Let us introduce you to the new addition to the ERC team - Cornelia Sieling! 🚀 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐚𝐭 𝐄𝐑𝐂? I am very happy to start at #ERC as “Referentin der Geschäftsführung” (consultant to the management), and I am looking forward to the many interesting tasks that come with this position. My responsibilities include supporting internal communication (e.g., ERC’s intranet), organizational management through systematic planning, implementation and monitoring of various channels, managing contracts, and assisting in different steering tasks. Corporate management is based on key aspects that can and should be pursued with targeted process management. I will support the management in formalizing and implementing these instruments. Currently, my focus lies on establishing the intranet with relevant content and ensuring that it is timely launched. In addition, I am involved in refining the corporate presentations while creating useful templates for colleagues to use.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦? I forecast that there will be various challenges in the future. Currently, the biggest one I am facing is fully understanding the intricacies of the company—its overall functioning, its operations, and its strengths and areas to improve. In order to successfully address the aforementioned, I need to deepen my knowledge of the various departments and the management team; that way, I will be able to make the most valuable contributions to the organization.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐑𝐂? My most recent position was as “Personal Assistant” to the management board at #OBERMEYER Infrastructure, an infrastructure planning company. There, in addition to my primary responsibilities, I took on additional tasks such as setting up a company presentation and modernizing the company website. Before that, I had many different roles at #Telefónica Germany, mostly within the Branding and Corporate Communication departments.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮? You don't fully grasp your company's culture until you've worked for a couple days out of HQ. My recent visit to Staffbase's Chemnitz HQ was where this realization truly crystallized for me. It was more than just touring an office space; I was enveloped in the ethos of an organization, its values, and its vibrant community of people. 🔹 The Office: Towering ceilings symbolizing the grandeur of vision, a kitchen stocked with diverse choices including pasta and a generous collection of beer, a basketball court emblematic of play and camaraderie, and a dedicated golf room. Every detail seemed purposefully chosen to reflect Staffbase's ethos. 🔹 The People: Genuine warmth and connection weren't confined to greetings. It flourished in conversations, shared moments, and the spirit of collaboration. I extend heartfelt appreciation to the EMEA Marketing Team for their profound insights, invaluable discussions, and exceptional hospitality. 🔹 The Brand: Everywhere I looked, the essence of Staffbase was palpable. Beyond the visual cues, it was alive in shared stories, evident pride, and a cohesive commitment to our mission and identity. Chemnitz marked just the beginning of my journey. Today, I explore Dresden, with Berlin on the schedule to conclude the week. As I delve into these cultural hubs of Staffbase, my aim is not merely to gather memories but to assimilate insights, stories, and experiences that I plan to share with my Sydney team.
