San Antonio | Bexar County Stormwater Requirements Bexar County, which includes the city of San Antonio, sits on top of the Edwards Aquifer. Edwards provides drinking water to Bexar County, so special attention is placed on stormwater quality in this region of the state. The aquifer is recharged with rainwater. So it makes sense that extra attention is placed on filtering that rainwater to a higher standard as it will eventually percolate to the aquifer below. To that end, the list of approved treatment BMPs (Best Management Practices) is rather small and includes the Austin Sand Filter as well as a select few end-of-pipe multi-stage treatment systems, as well as batch ponds. The choice of the system employed is decided by the P.E. during the design phase, but maintenance and permitting are the responsibility of the owner. After construction, the P.E. will provide certification that the BMP(s) are in place and functioning properly. Additionally, a record of maintenance affidavit will need to be recorded and a certified maintenance provider will need to be identified. Submittal of these documents will trigger a review by the county to verify that the system is in place and the documents submitted are valid. 📣ICYMI: Chicago Reader - In 1892, officials hired construction crews to create canal locks. They also dredged, deepened, and widened the river—which emptied into an entirely new canal called the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal—to reverse its flow. Since then, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) can be credited with most of the river’s cleanup. Even after the river’s reversal, Chicagoans continued to dump waste into the river, so the MWRD installed additional sewer pipes to divert wastewater away from the river. Since the 1990s, the district has been working on the Tunnel and Reservoir Plan(TARP), a deep tunnel system that forces rainwater to water reclamation plants, where it’s cleaned before being released. Today, the river isn’t perfect. The bottom of Bubbly Creek still contains metal contaminants and industrial chemicals. Nevertheless, it’s resilient. Our crews are hard at work placing and compacting the initial backfill soil to the achieve subgrade. Why is proper soil compaction crucial? PaveDrain is the highest performing permeable pavement

Though the word innovative might not be entirely accurate, the town of Prescott Valley has received a grant to tackle a huge challenge in desert climates. The project will look to capture runoff from rooftops in infiltration trenches to recharge the aquifer that numerous residents rely on for their wells.
