Today, we honor the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court decision that transformed the landscape of American education and civil rights by declaring racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. This milestone reminds us of the power of legal advocacy in the fight for equality and justice. At Musick Peeler, we are inspired by the courage and determination that led to this landmark ruling and are committed to upholding these principles in our work. #BrownVBoard #DiversityInLaw #MusickPeeler

Why don’t we see or hear youth and young adult voices widely and frequently (aside from when tragedies happen) in media, especially mega international/national media platforms? Many young people are wise beyond their years and have very profound perspectives, ideas, thoughts, and creative solutions to social issues within our communities, cities, states, and globally! When I became a Soros Justice Advocacy Fellow through Open Society Foundations in 2022, I set out to lift up youth voices on issues that matter to them and that are, in some cases, still very taboo in society. These incredible young leaders were up for the challenge! Here is a clip of ScholarCHIPS (For Children of Incarcerated Parents) alumna and law student Mick Guile sharing a reflection and revelation they had when trying to decide whether or not to pursue a legal career as a prosecutor and some food for thought that one of their professors proposed. Now, please don’t take this comment out of context…this is a very real decision that young law students, especially minorities, have to make when choosing their areas of practice. Defend Your Rights “All children in the United States have an equal right to enroll and participate in public elementary and secondary schools without regard to their or their parents’ immigration status.” This is codified by U.S. law. Yet, in today’s polarized public discourse, there are some who could use the reminder. The Department of Education released a video that clearly summarizes the right to an education for all children and the assurance that their parents or guardians can meaningfully participate in school life. If you observe violations of these rights, don’t hesitate to file a complaint with the Department of Justice at civilrights.justice.gov or with the Office of Civil Rights at ocrcas.ed.gov.

As we reflect on the anniversary of the School Desegregation Ruling, we recognize the progress made in advancing equality in education. However, there are still ongoing remnants of discrimination that demand our attention and action. At May Jung Law, we are committed to fighting against all forms of discrimination, especially in education. Latinx/Hispanic and Black students in California’s Orange Unified School District (“OUSD”) face disproportionate rates of discipline, a stark reminder that our work towards true equality is far from over. With the support of renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump, we are dedicated to seeking justice and rightful compensation for these students as we lead a class action lawsuit to seek justice and compensation for affected students. Join us in raising awareness and taking action against these injustices. Together, we can create a future where every student receives fair treatment, opportunities, and the chance to thrive. Visit the link in our bio to learn more about our efforts and how you can make a difference. ✊📚 #AnniversaryOfDesegregationRuling #EndDiscrimination #EducationForAll #ClassActionLawsuit #MayJungLaw #EqualityInProgress

The US Supreme Court banned affirmative action in college admissions in June of 2023 but said students could write essays centered on race and discrimination. Ever since the ban, law schools have refined their essay prompts so that admissions officers gain a deeper understanding into the background of the candidate. Nevertheless, law schools are apprehensive that the ban could result in less-diverse campuses. To know more about the impact of the ban on campus diversity, listen to our audiogram 👇 You can read Karen Sloan's full story here 👉 https://reut.rs/48PgzGi 🎤 Shruthi Krishnamurthy shares audio legal updates weekly! #lawstudents #legalindustry #legal #lawyers #diversity #affirmativeaction #scotus #publicpolicy

#Lawyers are familiar with the term "circuit splits" but the general American public probably is not. When a law suit is lost it may go to the next level which is a Circuit Court of Appeals. At that level it is imperative that the judges utilize #fairness #equality #reciprocity, especially when a victim has proven #sexualharassment, #retaliation and #discrimination #primafacie but her perpetrators #perjured #falsified documents, dates, activities, #spoliated and #misrepresented How do people get away with lying and presenting falsified records and hiding evidence anyway? Each of us require #equaljusticeunderlaw , even #thelittleguys Please help #judges When fairness does not happen, the only choice left is the #supremecourt to demonstrate #circuitsplit and with the help of #amicuscuriae Our students, our kids, our public deserve #safety, #comfort, and #transparency while attending college and university. Title VI Advocate | Educational Equity Champion | Founding Member of Save Your Six | Organizer for BIPOC Students & Families
What does Title VI really mean for our students? Title VI of the Civil Rights Act isn't just a legal mandate—it's a lifeline for students who deserve to learn in environments free from discrimination. Yet, many families and educators don’t know the protections it offers. Schools are required to address racial harassment and create safe spaces for all students, especially those from Black and Brown communities. It's up to us to ensure that this law isn’t just words on paper but action in our classrooms. Let’s continue to spread the word and hold our schools accountable. #TitleVI #EducationalEquity #BIPOCStudents
