A conversation with Ravindra Punde sheds some light on the concerns in the current architectural curriculum and shows us what means can be used to conquer these challenges. We discuss his thoughts on the present system and the program at the School of Environment and Architecture apart from various other aspects of his journey in architecture, the story of his design firm DesignCell Architecture and his inspirations from Gandhi. It is a conversation I am proud to share with the industry. #ArchitecturalEducationPodcast #ArchitecturePodcast #HigherEducation #FutureofDesign #PodcastersofLinkedIn #ArchitecturalInsights #EducationalDiscussions #musingspatialexperience #musex #designdailogues

One day in the field, one day in the classroom, One day as a student, one day as a teacher, but always learning. One day in the studio, where design, creativity, and technology blend, And then... one day back in the field, one day at the office. This rhythmic dance of roles and settings is more than my routine; it's my poem of gratitude. 🍃 Each shift brings new perspectives, each day offers fresh insights. Whether I'm sharing knowledge with my students in Design Studio I or navigating the intricacies of architectural surveys, I find joy in every moment. This journey weaves together the many threads of my professional and personal growth, reminding me that every experience, every challenge, is a verse in the ongoing poem of life. Here's to the beauty of learning, teaching, and creating, no matter where we are or what hat we wear. May we all find such poetry in our daily lives. 🌟 #LifeAsAPoem #AlwaysLearning #GratefulHeart #DesignAndTechnology #ArchitecturalJourney #EducatorLife #CreativeProcess

Thrilled to share the findings from my dissertation on storytelling in spatial narratives! This research explores Nigel Coates' narrative styles—binary, sequence, and biotopic—and their impact on architectural design. By analyzing three postmodern museums, I examined how these storytelling techniques enhance the spatial experience, making designs more meaningful and memorable. Storytelling is a powerful tool, not just in literature, but in shaping the way we interact with spaces. #Dissertation #Architecture #NarrativeArchitecture #StorytellingInDesign #SpatialNarratives #PostmodernArchitecture #NigelCoates https://lnkd.in/gnj4zvdb

Between the sacred and the profane. A lively discussion within our community, The Architects' Hub, about the home; the sacredness, sanctity of one's home. I found this very interesting article by professor Brandon R. Ro - Utah University, 'The Sacred and Profane: Thoughts on Architectural Education and Pedagogy'. Here is the Abstract (pdf attached): "Institutions of higher education have distanced themselves from teaching anything related to the sacred in architectural education. While the education of the architect has remained a critical focus for practitioners since Vitruvius, architecture’s historical ties to the sacred have been forgotten and dismissed. Many are beginning to realize the importance of this topic for contemporary architectural education. Architects have an ethical task of defending the authenticity of human experience as well as creating a beautiful world that uplifts the human spirit and nourishes cognitive, behavioral, and emotional health. As the co-founder of a new architecture program, I discuss both the practical and operational experiences of teaching and developing curricula with sacred pedagogy in mind. The paper also reviews “where” and “how” academic programs might attempt to deal with the sacred in curricular development. The success of any pedagogical intent will ultimately take years to manifest itself in the built works of students. Integrating the sacred into architectural education is critical for the profession because it helps future architects cultivate their empathic imagination, increase their compassion for the building user, and nourish their love for humanity." #architecture #architect #architecturaleducation #education #sacredspace #design #knowledge

Social Scientist, National Renewable Energy Laboratory | Contributing Author, Sixth National Climate Assessment | Energy, Climate Justice, Just Transition
New special issue in the Journal of Architectural Education, “Worlding Transitions.” Opening essay offers an important corrective to the overwhelmingly technocratic way of planning energy transitions: “Beyond these rhetorical questions, the aim of this issue is to identify and amplify practices of design, research, education, and action that engage the concepts of worlding, energy, and transitions within the built environment. By worlding we mean the use of media and methods like drawing, speculative fiction, game design, storytelling, performance arts, travelogues, and scholarship that seeks to break the cycle of colonial reproduction in the spatial practices by employing alternative methods, tools, and institutional resources to support the broader contemporary struggle for climate and environmental justice… Put another way, we were interested in the material histories of the political ecology of the energy system that are grounded in real places and real peoples’ stories.” #climatechange #justtransition #energytransition https://lnkd.in/gPjmVgVv
