🌍 Italy's Overshoot Day: reflecting on our environmental footprint! 🗓 Yesterday, May 19th, marked Italy's Overshoot Day. This signifies that we have depleted all the ecological resources our country can regenerate for the year. For the rest of 2024, we are maintaining our ecological deficit by drawing down local resource stocks and accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In essence, we are operating in overshoot. 💥 Reaching Overshoot Day just 140 days into the year underscores the urgency to change the status quo and embrace increasingly sustainable and circular practices. However, Italy is not alone in depleting available resources. Twenty other countries have already reached this negative milestone, including Qatar, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America. If all countries followed suit, we would need about three planet Earths to sustain such consumption levels. But we only have one!
