Johnson Bigwi says it better. If you're considering investing in real estate development in Rwanda, make sure you appreciate the advantages of sloped construction. Avoid cutting out land for excavation, instead, follow the natural slopes of the land. Yes because Rwanda is the land of thousand hills. Video Credits: @Stevenndukwu #RwRealEstate

🌏 🏰 🏩 🏢 🏟 Advancing Land Policy and Physical Planning in Nigeria: Building a Sustainable Future As Nigeria strives for economic growth and social development, it is crucial to address the complexities surrounding land policy and physical planning. These fundamental aspects not only shape the landscape of our communities but also have far-reaching implications for our collective well-being and future prosperity. Land policy and physical planning are essential pillars of sustainable development, providing the framework for equitable land use, efficient urbanization, and environmental conservation. However, in Nigeria, these policies often face challenges such as outdated regulations, inadequate enforcement mechanisms, and competing interests that hinder their effectiveness. To realize our nation's full potential, we must prioritize the modernization and reform of land policy and physical planning. This entails: Strengthening Land Governance: By enhancing land tenure systems, streamlining land registration processes, and combating land grabbing and speculation, we can ensure secure land rights for all citizens, particularly marginalized communities. Promoting Spatial Planning: Developing comprehensive spatial plans that balance urban growth with environmental conservation, infrastructure development, and social equity is essential for creating livable, resilient cities and fostering sustainable economic development. Enhancing Public Participation: Engaging stakeholders, including local communities, civil society organizations, and private sector actors, in decision-making processes ensures that land policies and physical planning initiatives reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our society. Embracing Technology and Innovation: Leveraging digital tools, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other innovative solutions can improve data management, facilitate land administration, and enhance decision-making processes in land policy and physical planning. Strengthening Institutional Capacity: Investing in the capacity-building of government agencies, regulatory bodies, and planning professionals is crucial for effective implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of land policy and physical planning regulations. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, let us work together to advance land policy and physical planning in Nigeria. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and good governance, we can build a more sustainable and inclusive future for generations to come. God bless NIGERIA! #LandPolicy #PhysicalPlanning #SustainableDevelopment #Urbanization #Nigeria #GoodGovernance #CommunityDevelopment #EnvironmentalConservation

Newsletter with a brief description some of the recent actions of the amazing work the UN-Habitat country team in Guinea-Bissau is developing. I am very happy to be part of this journey since 2018, not only by playing an active role in the elaboration and implementation of several projects related to urban and regional development, but also supporting the continuous and consistent growth of the country programme and the development of the local team. The next years look even more promising, with the kick-off of new projects that combine policy and strategic work at the national and local levels, and infrastructure interventions in several cities across Guinea-Bissau. #unhabitat #urbandevelopment #urbanresilience #policymaking #urbanprojects

Urban informality in the Global South. Justice, equity, inclusion. Housing, climate, communities. Views expressed are my own.
Africa’s housing deficit–both qualitative and quantitative–is severe, with 60-90% of the population living in informal, substandard housing. Africa’s population is estimated to reach 3 billion by 2050 and 80% of the buildings that will exist in the region by that time are yet to be built. Of these, nearly 90% will be residential. Considering that 50% of the most climate vulnerable countries worldwide are in Africa, these homes MUST be climate and disaster resilient--and constructed using resilient materials and methods--if we have any hope of meeting climate change targets and saving lives. Governments and other stakeholders need significant financial, technical and policy support to meaningfully address the needs of billions of Africans for safe, adequate housing. Solutions exist, but must be supported with adequate financing and policy frameworks to reach the scale required to effect transformative change. #ResilientHousing #Housing4All #AdequateHousing4All
Africa is driving global urbanization 📈 But as urbanization in Africa accelerates, so does the demand for housing. Cities are already facing challenges around housing affordability, availability and adequacy with many people living in unsuitable conditions or informal settlements because of these challenges. With cities growing rapidly, it's crucial to address the housing squeeze such as in improving housing supply, access to financing, and housebuilding innovation to ensure access to affordable, safe housing for all. #Housing #HousingForAll #HousingAffordability #Africa #Urbanization (source: https://loom.ly/6DS-AO0)
