The architectural industry is under increasing pressure, with the ‘race to the bottom’ affecting everything from pricing to quality. With many opting for cheaper, unregulated solutions, it’s more important than ever to highlight the true value of hiring an ARB-registered architect. As an architect committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards, I follow a Code of Conduct that ensures integrity, competence, and accountability in every project. Despite the industry's challenges, including reduced fees and the drive for quicker, cheaper solutions, I believe in prioritising long-term value over short-term cost savings. In a world focused on speed and savings, an architect’s role as a protector of quality, safety, and design excellence is more crucial than ever.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 in the quality of design drawings over the past three years? Design drawings that were once more comprehensive and complete now seem fragmented and contradictory. It seems like it’s become increasingly difficult for architects and structural engineers to align work within their teams. I’ve been thinking about what might be causing this, and it occurred to me that it could be linked to the trends of remote and hybrid work that emerged during and after the COVID pandemic. Has the lack of face-to-face interaction and the natural collaboration that occurs in an office setting caused these issues? #construction #steeldetailing #steelfabrication

It’s several factors, starting at the last recession. During that period, there was an exodus from the industry and several years of stagnation where knowledge was no longer passed from mentors to mentees. A generation was left trying to teach themselves skills and many developed poor practices. These individuals moved into management roles where they are now teaching a new generation poor practices. This spread of poor practice is an exponential rate that will continue to increase if left unchanged. There is also a talent issue. A/E is losing talent to financing and business because the pay is better and work is, generally, less stressful. Quality candidates that would create quality products are few and far between. Lastly, there is a compensation issue. Good plans take time for coordination and detailing. Owners are driving costs down as they are faced with increased construction costs. They try reducing A/E cost without considering the added cost of change orders and delays from poor quality design and plans. The industry needs to change.

Thrilled to share the transformative impact of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) in the engineering and architectural fields! CADD technology revolutionizes the design process by allowing precise, efficient, and versatile drafting. It enhances collaboration through easy sharing and modification of digital plans, leading to faster project completion and improved accuracy. With CADD, complex structures and systems can be visualized in 3D, identifying potential issues before they arise and ensuring optimal design solutions. This innovation not only boosts productivity but also drives creativity, enabling professionals to push the boundaries of what's possible in design. #CADD #Engineering #Architecture #InnovationInDesign #Mechanicaldesign #Telecommunicationdesign

Here are 3 things every successful Architect does to early engage clients visually. That non-successful Architects don't know. Want them? Here they are...👇 - successful architects: use the 3D Model first previews to get client insights - non-successful architects: create markups over the 3D Model with giving participation to the client - successful architects: budgets & creates at least 1 Rendering on every project - non-successful architects: does not include Renderings on their budget - successful architects: uses the 3D Model to point out colors and materials together with the client - non-successful architects: focuses on making more and more revisions about every single detail of the 3d model, forgetting that the client is more concerned on how materials and colors will look like VS. perfecting the structure. So, remember: Your client is not another Architect (like we are incorrectly teached)... Give more participation to the client from early in the design process to make a great connection and get them excited from early in the process. What else you want to know (From my experience working with 453+ Architects)? Drop in the comments below...👇
