We want to give a special congratulations to Ben Timmons on his incredible victory in 2024 Caterham 270R Championships, becoming champion in back-to-back seasons!
At My Local Bobby we believe in supporting up and coming talent and we are very proud to have supported Ben and his team throughout the season, all the way to his championship victory!
Well done Ben!
A dry Croke Park..
The GAA is displaying a commendable example of prioritising responsible alcohol consumption over financial gain, especially in the context of their stance on alcohol consumption at sporting events.
Unlike the scenarios where American football and Bruce Springsteen concerts at Croke Park allow fans to enjoy alcoholic beverages from their seats, the GAA's approach warrants attention for its forward-thinking stance on public health and safety when it comes to Irish sport.
This discrepancy isn't merely about creating a double standard but underscores a deeper commitment to encouraging more responsible alcohol consumption among fans, irrespective of the event when it comes to Irish sport. What rockers or other foreign sports do is not relevant to it. Thems their rules.
In not extending the permission to consume alcohol directly in the seating areas to all events, the GAA indirectly supports efforts made elsewhere, like the rugby Principality Stadium in Wales and Twickenham, to offer a more inclusive and comfortable environment for all attendees. It reflects government health policy. Irish rugby choses to ignore this
The GAA's stance reflects its values. Rugby had a choice whether to accept these values and are lucky to be allowed to play at Croke Park at all
On Tuesday I played two competitions at the same time.
Before the "purists" come on saying "you can't do that, that's not in the rules", we did - we allow it in our golf society, and have done for years (even though I prefer not to when I can).
One was a normal golf competition - 20 players, stableford, all playing against the course, best score wins.
The other, matchplay - playing against one other person, quarter final, least shots per hole wins the hole, most hole wins, wins. A bit like you see on the final day of the Ryder Cup.
Which do you think I prefer?
Playing the course and the field?
Or playing the man?
You know I'm competitive - so comment below, which format do you think I prefer?
Coordination of the game calendar like this is going to be essential in bringing the finances of the game into better shape. The different set-ups of the various stakeholders make it challenging, but the commercial logic (no, necessity!) is compelling.
I suspect the bigger challenge is yet to be solved, and that's how to pool commercial rights in such a way as to spread the value of rugby's iconic events - Six Nations Rugby, The British & Irish Lions etc. - across the professional club game. That's where the value is.
THE FUTURE FOR SCOTTISH RUGBY 🏴
A very interesting read and insight into Scottish Rugby’s plans for the next 10 years.
A few ‘highlights’ of the pathway include;
👉the return of the Scotland A team
👉the scrapping of the super series
👉’Expanded Academies’
👉New professional game agreement
👉A better relationship between the ‘domestic and professional’ game
And many more. Take a look for yourself.

We would be interested to hear what people’s thoughts are. Would you change anything? Is there something they have missed? Is the ‘scrapping’ of the super series the correct choice?

Bravo! Fantastic progress in the game. It will lead to more exposure and positive storytelling around the women’s game which is now 25% of the playing community globally (one of the reasons it is attracting more interest as the game is growing v men’s. I’m sure all the right questions have been asked in terms of where the money goes to ensure the principle of diversity, inclusion and equality filters down to the players. For example:
From an Irish perspective I do hope that Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) translates some of their share of the sponsorship into fair pay for the women who many are currently on 15k a year gradually rising to a few on 30k. It’s clear that unless you are a student living with your parents that this is unsustainable. This has also resulted in talent retiring and a slow down in development in recent years as other nations moved ahead. New Development plans and commitments from the IRFU and Sponsorships like this I hope will help close the unequal pay gap somewhat. Well done Diageo#rugby#equality

GUINNESS ANNOUNCES ITS BIGGEST EVER INVESTMENT IN RUGBY
Today we have announced a new long-term partnership with Six Nations Rugby that will see the women’s Championship renamed the Guinness Women’s Six Nations as of 2024, alongside the extension of the Title Partnership of the Men’s Championship, the Guinness Men’s Six Nations.
We are delighted that our partnership with Six Nations continues to grow from strength to strength as we are also announcing our renewal of our title sponsorship of the Men’s Six Nations Championship from 2025.
Our partnership with Six Nations Rugby reflects a shared ambition to continue to build both events into the most valued and respected Championships in world sport, offering the widest possible appeal for a global audience.
I’d like to extend my congratulations and thanks to the Guinness team across local and global markets who have made this happen. This is a new era for Guinness Rugby and I can’t wait for it to kick off!
As we go into the second weekend of a thrilling Six Nations, here’s a really timely story about the unintended benefits of lowering the tackle height (from shoulder height to sternum) in schools and across much of amateur Rugby Union.
This was a controversial change. A year ago traditionalists were up in arms. Many feared it would ruin the sport as they knew it.
In reality it has proved to do the opposite.
While it’s too early to conclusively say that it has lowered the incidence of concussion, the anecdotal evidence is that there has been a significant improvement. And it has had another unintended consequence - because the rule leads to fewer two-on-one tackles, the ball-carrier can often offload the ball to a team mate. So as well as improving safety, rugby is getting faster and more enjoyable to watch, with fewer set-piece interruptions.
Those of us in positions of influence in the game should take heart from this example.
* Increasing player safety doesn’t have to come at the expense of the sporting spectacle.
* Innovation is critical to the future of the sport.
See you at Murrayfield. Come on Scotland! 🏴

I understand that World Rugby's supporters, players, coaches and pundits are happy and proud when their team wins. But is it not in the interest of these very people and the game itself, that poor and inconsistent officiating is recognised, improved and ultimately eradicated? Is winning a game of rugby really more important than ensuring that an equal contest and a fair result ensues by applying the officiating system and its processes the way it was designed and intended? How has this issue been so prominent in world rugby for the last decade without referees or the World Rugby Board being held accountable? Is it not obviously evident that it's ruining the sport?
