Were you aware that collectively, we are consuming resources equivalent to 1.75 Earths each year? It's time for bold steps towards sustainability! Renault Trucks, together with Volvo Energy, is spearheading initiatives to make battery recycling a reality. By focusing on reusing minerals in battery production, we're establishing robust recycling channels to inject valuable materials back into the manufacturing cycle. "As a result, we create a refined powder known as black mass, containing the valuable minerals crucial for producing new batteries," says Nicolas Gendre, Head of Battery Industrialization & Logistics at Volvo Energy. Watch the video showcasing our ambitions to fuel battery production and embark on a journey towards a brighter, greener future! 🌍 #WeAreVolvoGroup #RenaultTrucks #VolvoEnergy #BatteryRecycling #Sustainability #Circularity

A recent article by Circular Online is about another potentially fruitful partnership on the market, between Nissan Motor Corporation and Ecobat 🔋 💪 Two companies will investigate ways to use EV batteries from Nissan LEAFs and whether they could be recovered, repaired, recycled or repurposed. Another aim of the partnership is to investigate ways of commercializing the process of locating, safely transporting, dismantling, repairing and repurposing EV batteries for second-life usage, the same as what Recirculate is working on. We are happy more and more big brands are joining efforts and working together to unleash the potential of batteries’ second life. #DisruptiveTech 🟢 Mercedes-Benz AG has just opened a groundbreaking battery recycling facility in Kuppenheim, Germany, marking a huge leap forward in sustainable electric vehicle (EV) production. The factory, the first of its kind in Europe, features an innovative mechanical-hydrometallurgical process that allows the recovery of more than 96% of valuable materials from used EV batteries. This is a significant milestone in the company’s ambitious goal to reduce reliance on raw resources, minimize waste, and promote a true circular economy. This new recycling plant isn't just another factory—it represents a transformative approach to battery lifecycle management. By recovering scarce materials like lithium, nickel, and cobalt, Mercedes is taking ownership of the full battery supply chain. The recycled materials can be used to produce over 50,000 new battery modules annually, helping to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles while cutting down on the need for new raw materials. #ev #battery #batteryrecycling Campaign Catapult, Pravo Consulting

In addition to car recycling, car battery recycling is also becoming increasingly important in the Netherlands. Last year, a useful application rate of 63.6% was achieved for discarded drive batteries from electric cars. This is well above the recycling obligation of 50% of the weight of lithium-ion batteries. More facts, figures, and insights about car and car battery recycling can be found in our 2023 sustainability report, "Over Thirty Years of Development and Refinement." https://lnkd.in/epaj9HmB ARN, Janet Kes, Martijn Boelhouwer #car #battery #recycling

The “International Roundtable on Automotive Recycling” IRT is having a session on “Beyond Batteries: Mastering the EV Recycling Challenge” I’m excited and honoured to have been asked to present as a feature speaker to add insites to this topic. If you are available, register to hear and discuss on the global efforts made to ensure resources from EVs are being reused recycled and repurposed. May 2, 2024 at 12:00 pm GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) / 8:00 am EST on Zoom. Register today EV production, adoption, sales, service and charging is important. But even more important comes from end of life and what happens to these vehicles when they hit a automotive dismantlers yard. In my years of working with EVs, industry and consumers, a question that always comes up is “what happens to them at end of life?” https://lnkd.in/ga4trsjD
