Recently, I received a response from an individual in reference to Operation Happy Nurse. They expressed confidence in managing the wellness of their community and asked if I was familiar with a well known meditation mobile app. I commend any organization that prioritizes the mental health and well-being of its healthcare community members. The primary objective of Operation Happy Nurse is to alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression within the nursing profession. By encouraging and celebrating organizations for taking these important steps, we feel that we can help to better the culture of the profession. However, I would like to encourage healthcare organizations or places of healthcare learning to explore wellness resources led by nurses or healthcare workers themselves. The intricacies of our trauma and the challenges inherent to our profession are best understood by those who have shared similar experiences. The community aspect of these healthcare worker-led organizations is equally as essential as the available wellness resources. Being surrounded by individuals who understand you, see you, and recognize your struggles as their own is a healing experience. When I began my nursing career, discussing mental health was not commonplace. I hesitated to open up about my anxiety, fearing it would be perceived as weakness. I did not want to speak to my non-medical field family and friends because I didn’t think they could truly understand my unique emotions. In the defense of our non-medical family and friends, how could they truly understand? This emphasizes the significance of connecting healthcare professionals with resources led by individuals who genuinely understand their experiences. Healthcare professional led organizations are uniquely positioned to validate the emotions of our fellow professionals and respond in ways that don’t include phrases like "I don't know how you do what you do" or "I don't want to hear this, it's depressing." Organizations to consider when working to provide community, understanding, and healing to the nursing community: -Operation Happy Nurse -Don't Clock Out -Debriefing the Frontlines -Introspective Spaces #nursementalhealth #mentalhealth #wellness #nursing

WELLBEING ALERT!!! On April 16, 2024, I presented this case report as part of my #Nursing #Administration and #Management course. It was from my final clinical posting where I faced a challenge. My exposure to the dynamic outpatient care where our clinic got about 50-100 visitors daily, differed from the familiar and controlled ward setting. Tasked with single-handedly assessing vital signs for a sea of patients armed with only one set of equipment available in the entire clinic. For 5 straight days! I battled stress due to the high disproportionate workload. It compromised timely assessments and increased my dissatisfaction with work. Perhaps, an extra set of equipment would’ve upped the nurse ratio. Then upon concluding my last shift, my CNO surprised me with a heartfelt gift. Her words: “You’re the first student in a while not to escape during work hours.” Accepting my reward, I smiled, knowing I’d been tempted. This experience sparked my passion for nurse’s wellbeing. In my report, I applied Carl Ludwig’s #SystemsTheory, highlighting the synergism between healthcare teams and environments. Key takeaways: 📝The hospital is an #OpenSystem. 📝Just like in homeostasis, an issue with one part of the system, affects the whole. 📝There has to be a constant and equitable feedback loop to restore optimal balance. 📝Adequate resources/equipment = Reduced staff burnout 📝Efficient workload allocation/management = Enhanced patient care By adopting this systematic approach, healthcare institutions can: 📌Ensure internal functioning aligns with tasks, technology, and the external environment while providing high quality services. I got inspired to reminisce on my report from recently observing nurse wellbeing advocates: Charlene Platon, Yetunde 🦋 Makinde and several of us who put immense effort in advocating against workplace toxicity. Thank you all😊. Share your thoughts: How can Nurses prioritize wellbeing at work? #NurseWellbeing #HealthcareManagement #BurnoutPrevention #QualityPatientCare

When you as a nurse THRIVE, so does everyone else in your life. Your patients are safer and have better outcomes. Your family gets you at your best. When your health improves so does that of your family. You can live a more functional, fun life and can avoid being a patient for preventable health issues. (I think a lot of nurses worry about having to be patients themselves). Your community gets your expert insight and passion on things that are important to you. The voice of a nurse is a voice of change. Health allows you to better use that voice. When you say "Yes" to yourself, you are really saying "Yes" to so many others. Shed the guilt of investing time into yourself. Address your stress and health bravely. In doing so, you might just reignite your passion for nursing. Put your wellbeing first. You deserve it. Your patients deserve it. Your family deserves it. One powerful way to say "Yes" to yourself, is to join Stress Solutions RN, an innovative comprehensive wellness support program for nurses of all levels and specialties. Stress Solutions RN teaches you how to significantly reduce stress at work and at home, improve your sleep and integrate healthy habits that are easy, impactful and manageable. We start next week. Comment or DM me "Stress Solutions RN" to get the details and chat about if this is a fit for you.

Often times as multi-passionate nurses, we say YES very quickly to opportunities to serve others. As a result of always saying YES - this is what happens: 1. You’re overcommitted and overtired 2. It can create stress and possibly lead to burnout (prolonged stress) that can impact your health and well-being 3. You Won’t Have Time for Yourself So as a friendly reminder: When saying YES to others, make sure you're NOT saying NO to your wellness. #selfcarefornurses
