My rant for today - well to fair for yesterday. Had to travel back to London yesterday - no problem i thought work on the train and be productive. Not the case as the wifi on East Midlands Railway was so appalling I and many others had to switch to using mobile devices. Second problem as I previously stated claims by mobile operators on 99% coverage are at best disingenuous if not outright lies. In the 90 min journey I estimate I had 10 minutes connection and not all in one go. It was exactly the same on the way home - so I lost almost half a days work. Multiple that by the number of people who were trying to work and i would estimate over 90 work days on just those trains and I am being cautious in that figure. Then factor in the number of trains a day on that route and then every day 10 person years are wasted. If you extrapolate that over the whole country the loss of productivity is mind boggling. The Government wants to boost the economy - simple measure force either the rail companies as a condition of their licence to provide adequate wifi on route or make the mobile operators live up to their 99% claim on all rail routes.
