This Black History Month, we honor the wisdom of powerful Black Women, whose voices have inspired many to embrace their strength and advocate for personal growth. A quote by Alice Walker especially resonates: "No person is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow." Alice Walker's words remind us of the importance of using your voice and the right to personal (and professional) growth. It's a principle that resonates deeply, highlighting the necessity of creating supportive growth-centered environments. As we honor Black History Month and the legacies of people like Alice Walker, let's commit to fostering spaces that celebrate growth and encourage the power of unity in driving positive change. #BlackHistoryMonth #Empowerment #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #UseYourVoice

In the journey of honoring Black History Month, the little things matter most. Asking questions, showing support, and educating ourselves. We spoke with Ola, one of Housing Service Practitioners, about his personal journey and discussed ideas on how anyone can become more involved in supporting Black History month. “It’s having done that research, and if you want to be involved it’s just asking the little questions sometimes. Or also, just being there. So, when we are doing events for black history month, are you showing up? Are you supporting? It doesn’t have to be financial support, it could just be reposting these things, doing the education, are you involved in those little ways. That’s a small way to start.” As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s commit to asking more questions, showing up, and supporting each other. It’s in these little acts that we can create a significant difference. . . . #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #representation #inclusion #empowerment #yyc #calgary

As part of our Black History Month spotlights on influential African American educators, we're highlighting Ida B. Wells-Barnett - a teacher, journalist, and an integral voice for civil rights. Wells-Barnett grew up in the South during the Reconstruction era and saw firsthand the destruction that slavery brought to the now-freed African-American community. As she got older and watched Jim Crow become the norm, she decided to dedicate her life to advocating to end these laws and create a better life for black people, as well as for women's rights. In 1892, she wrote a collection of articles titled 'Southern Horrors,' which highlighted the false accusations against black individuals who were harshly and incorrectly punished. These articles, detailing how unfairly black men and women were judged, were highly influential and informative. In 2020, almost 90 years after her passing, she was awarded a posthumous Pulitzer prize for her journalistic efforts, finally recognizing her decades of activism. Her remarkable work helped transform our country, and we cannot thank her enough for the time and effort she spent advocating for a better world! 🌟 Celebrating Black History and Women's History 365! At the intersection of Black history and women's history month I give a reminder we that these histories are not confined to brief periods on the calendar. They are vibrant, living narratives that shape our past, present, and future. I'm also reminded of intersectionality—a recognition that we each have an intersection of multiple identities, including race, gender, class, sexuality, and more. Intersectionality calls us to embrace the complexity of human experience and to understand how various forms of oppression and privilege intersect and shape our lives. As we commit to celebrating Black history and women's history 365 days a year, let's also pledge to: - amplify marginalized voices - dismantle systemic barriers - challenge stereotypes - uplift diverse narratives and, - foster environments of belonging and empowerment for all. Today and every day, let's honor the contributions, achievements, and legacies of Black people and women. Let's continue work to build a world where every voice is heard and every unique story is valued. 🌟 #BlackHistory365 #WomensHistoryMonth #Intersectionality #TheNecessaryJourney

Acknowledging and celebrating Black History is deeply important to me because it helps ensure that the contributions, struggles, and achievements of Black individuals aren’t forgotten or marginalised. Understanding Black history gives me a fuller picture of our shared past and highlights the resilience and impact of those who have shaped society, often without the recognition they deserve. For me, it’s also a reminder of the ongoing fight for racial justice and equality. By celebrating Black history, I commit to advocating for a more inclusive future where everyone’s contributions are valued. #BlackHistory #DiversityAndInclusion #Equality #RacialJustic #BlackExcellence #InclusionMatters #CelebrateBlackHistory #Diversity #CulturalAwareness #Empowerment #Leadership #HistoryMatters
